It’s a direct drive trainer so I have a dedicated 11-25 cassette.
Yeah i kinda like having control of things with a dumb trainer, as long as that doesn’t come at the expense of good work. I’d rather not pay the money for a smart trainer anyway

I had been doing VO2 Max work in ERG mode in the past but now much prefer to use resistance mode. This way if I’m struggling I don’t grind to a halt in the ERG “death spiral” and still get some training benefit and, conversely, on strong days I may be able to exceed the target powers.
Per the tips above, I sort of ramp up my effort as the intervals start to prevent from way overshooting initial power. Usually once I figure out the right gear for the interval on the first rep, then I don’t need to shift a lot on the rest of the reps. Between reps I’ll usually just drop down to small ring up front and soft pedal.
It’s just practice, this is a KK Road machine, you do NOT need a smart trainer to train effectively.
KK Road Machine still a very good trainer. With a power meter on your bike it’s a great combo.
I moved from KK Road Machine to a Kickr Core last fall. I can attest that not having erg mode is no impediment at all to great training with TR, especially if you have a power meter. Different, yes, but I would not say erg mode is clearly better overall…
(The smart trainer does make Zwift rides 100x better though)
Kudos, that is one smooth power curve. How long did it take you to have such a consistent power delivery?
