Wade & Caley announce “Escape Collective” membership media

I was pretty much down to Cycling Tips after they killed off Peloton, Dirt Rag, and, to a lesser extent, when all the major brands left Road Bike/Mountain Bike Action.

I skim Bike Rumor, Bike Radar & PinkBike for bikes & gear.

  • I don’t follow any of them particularly closely but with them in my FB feed, I get the odd gem that pops up. I usually hit up the main site for a skim when those happen, as a quick check on other active stuff.

Bicycle Retailer is good for industry focused news.

I’ll echo some of others in that I don’t want to the new thing to be basically a rehashed version of CT.
Can they get a comment section as toxic and wild at PinkBike ahah

Yeah, I read through that list and was mentally slotting ex-CT names into the job descriptions.

Then I got to thinking, hey, if anyone can beat out those names for the roles, well, I DEFINITELY want to read that publication.

Blister Gear Review is another good one for MTB gear. If you happen to be into skiing (which is how I first found out about them), their ski gear reviews are great too. I read stuff on Pinkbike when it catches my interest (I follow them on Instagram), but I much prefer the reviews on Blister. I think they’re more balanced personally and read less like ads paid for by the manufacturer.

I have reverted back to using CyclingNews just because they come closest to what I am looking for, but man they are a long way off from what they once were.

The advertorials, pop-ups, paid-for reviews, etc are nauseating….I am struggling to see the value in subscribing.

Bike Rumor is not bad for gear stuff, but a little too MTB for my interests.

I like the Blister podcasts and bought a pair of skis largely based on their positive review. I’m also thinking hard about their membership + Spot injury insurance package as I have crap health insurance this year.

very much looking forward to what they have planned. The cycling media landscape is pretty poor in terms of decent, original reporting. Pretty bored of the current offerings.

Cyclingnews seems pretty alright for road.

Bikepacking.com is my happy place though.

I find that all I really need from Cyclingnews.com is the headlines. There really isn’t too much meat in 90+% of the articles. The Jay Vine article is one of the few exceptions.

They have been doing The Placeholder Podcast since their redundancy. Check it out if you have not, it’s not too dissimilar to the old CT podcast however it is only a temporary podcast but still they have already starting chatting about news and getting guests on the show.

No idea how this all started but it’s been quite the disaster. CT used to be so good, a real shame.

I wonder if the owners of Outside actually don’t like cycling? Maybe the plan is to buy up as many cycling media outlets as possible and simply drive them to the ground and then shut them down?

I think it’s more like buy up all the competition, kill it, and have the one site to rule them all.

There is an interview with the outside CEO somewhere on pinkbike. I seem to recall him expounding greatly on his road cycling career. IMO outside is explained by Hanlon’s razor ‘never ascribe to malice what can be explained by incompetence’.

They now have a survey out. Help shape what the new publication will look like. Please help us shape our direction

Wade Wallace’s latest substack newsletter suggests they will be opening on March 1 to see if they get enough membership interest to be viable.

Can’t wait.

I bothered to fill in the survey they put out and this is exactly what I asked for ad nauseum. Those stories were fantastic

Quit teasing Wade, just shut up and take my money. :joy:

Same. I basically begged them to not just be another racing publication
