Vision Mini’s worked ok for me but, I switched bars and they aren’t compatible with the new bar shape. Looking for something a touch longer and maybe lighter.

I use some profile design bars, they’re pretty long but I can get into a really comfortable position and give my wrists and arms a break on long distance rides. I recently added a riser and angled the skis in a bit and they feel great. I think they are 4525a or something like that.

I haven’t validated the speed/aero gains with numbers, but the reduced fatigue on ultras is already worth the squeeze. I did notice my speed appeared to be faster or the same with less effort, just nothing official.

I have never ridden in an aero helmet, because I get so hot and sweat from my head profusely. But seems like they are getting better at air flow. Would love to hear thoughts and opinions of using an aero helmet at Unbound 200. Clear benefits based on video for time savings. But am I just going to cook my head and overheat?

I’m going to be running Farr Aero Large with the Redshift bag attached to it for my races in the Mid-West (Unbound, Gravel National Championships, Gray Duck Grit)

There have been no studies that have shown even full blown TT helmets lead to overheating….almost every single Kona athlete uses a full TT lid now.

Now, will you perceive it to be hotter? Possibly….but it isn’t affecting your core body temp.

I have ridden in a number aero road lids and the Kask Utopia has had the best ventilation by far. Added bonus is the lack of a brow pad, so the sweat doesn’t drip down on to your glasses nearly as much.

Bought a Giro Eclipse this year to match my team kit and I was really impressed with the ventilation when down in FL on Spring Break last week….but the brow pad definitely caused some sweat dripping compared to my Utopia.

If you decide to get an aero lid for Unbound, do it now so you can adjust to it and overcome any perceived discomfort compared to a regular helmet. Personally, I don’t really notice any significant differences between my aero lids and my Specialized Prevail II, but I enjoy hot weather.

@aydraper I would say that the aero difference between my well ventilated Bontrager Velocis and my virtually non-ventilated Giro Air Attack Shield would only amount to a handful of minutes over the course of 200 miles. So I would just wear the Velocis.

There are a pretty good selection of well ventilated helmets that have some aero chops these days.

@DXR I saw your post back in the day & put it in the memory bank. Picked up a couple of the back bottle the other day. I THINK THEY ARE GREAT! One of the problems that kept me from riding with a bottle in my jersey pocket as part of my hydration solution is getting the bottle in and out of the pocket. My kit is pretty aero so the pockets aren’t as slack. It’s hard to get the bottles in after drinking. This sure solves that problem. So a couple of these bottles is an easy way to carry a little over a liter of water w/o dealing with a hydration pack or bottles on the frame. Simple and easy.

Definitely easy in and easy out of the jersey pocket. And doesn’t bounce out when you hit some rough stuff.

They come with a ‘freeze line’. :rofl: :rofl: So you know exactly where to fill if you’re going to freeze them. And, oh lordy, does it feel nice having a couple of frozen backbottles in your jersey pockets on a >90F day. They’re kinda flat on one side so you get this big cold contact point. Very nice.

Not for everybody but it’s a pretty good solution. Not a paid endorsement. I don’t know who makes these. Just think it’s a clever/effective idea.

Yeap, I expect that’s why Dylan himselt went into the wind tunnel rather than look at somebody elses / the bike radar video, because the wind tunnel findings are unique to him

It’s just not possible to apply one rider’s helmet data to another. Unfortunately. More than anything else a rider’s anatomy affects helmet choice (in terms of aerodynamics). If you’ve got broad shoulders vs narrow shoulders or barrel-chested vs rail thin…it all impacts how the helmet helps (or doesn’t!)

Glad you like them. I wear skinsuits, too, which also typically have shallower pockets.

I probably mentioned that I prefer a temporary 3rd bottle cage now for long rides, but I wouldn’t have minded a frozen bottle or two on yesterdays 105 degree ride.

There was a guy running a disc rear wheel at Big Sugar last October, so at least someone is trying it… I passed him somewhere along the way but I have to image the disc felt pretty rough on the Big Sugar course. I was happy on my comfy Enve G23s…

You used to be able to get wheel covers (fairing). So ride would be the same as normal. Haven’t seen them in ages - I think UCI doesn’t allow them for TTs. Don’t see anything that works with disk brakes either.

Interesting…I just checked WheelBuilder for their Aerojacket and they are not compatible with discs.

I’m not quite sure I understand why, though…best explanation I cn come up with is that you need to punch a larger hole to get over the mounting points on the hub than you normally would with a non-disc hub (thereby lacking some support, maybe?)

This might be a dumb question but which side goes against your back?

It seems like it would be the left side of this image for the angle in the pocket but the raised logo and that weird edge are there, can you feel those?
