Thanks! And sorry for derailing this thread.
He’s just more talented than the rest of us
Not at all! Keep the opinions coming and the discussion going.
Just be awesome and respectful!
I’ll add another one.
Power is an inferior metric…for VO2 max and above.
Torque specs are just there as friendly advice.
It’s important to hug your carbon parts as tightly as possible
Yes E-Bikes are a positive for all cyclist since it puts way more pressure to improve the infrastructure for all cyclists in cities and on commuter routes. Also E-Bikes that don’t require pedaling to move are not E-bikes they are scooters or motorcycles… they shouldn’t be treated the same.
Cycling as a sport is completely inconsequential to any considerations to Biking infrastructure, this is based on the needs of cycling for transportation as it should be, any recreational infrastructure is a nice bonus.
Cycling as a sport is also completely inconsequential to cycling as a mode of Transportation and if anything is detrimental to it’s image.
Indoor workouts at night > indoor workouts in the early AM.
Or who haven’t been injured yet, based on some comments over the years on the podcast and around here!
I was a marathon runner until I got a bad stress fracture in my foot and cycling was the only thing I could do. Haven’t run since apart from CX races.
This is definitely part of it. I can only listen to a deep dive on something so many times before it gets boring.
I think the other part is Nate not being on as frequently.
Nate is the CEO with ADD. Being the CEO, he has a lot more freedom to say what is on his mind without worrying about repercussions. Combining this with ADD (I say this as a fellow ADDer), he is more likely to go off script. Once one person is off script, it turns into more of a natural conversation vs. a formulaic script.
On the other hand, I would bet the older ones were less rehearsed but they got into trouble a couple of times and felt there was more of a need to script them. E.g., Nate discussing the use of laxatives before the race to make sure he is not carrying extra (literal) waste. My feeling was that he got a lot of pushback because laxatives can be abused by people with eating disorders (he apologized on next episode if I remember right).
We are also missing Amber and Pete. The Pete-Chad combo always gave vibes of unlikely animal friends. Chad being a little more rigid with his shaved head in contrast to the fun loving Pete and his long flowing hair. Amber was just a goldmine for the pod. Incredibly smart and insightful with a long career as a pro.
Rode and raced SPD-SL for years because I was “supposed to” . This year I went back to SPD and it was so much nicer. I am also able to put out more watts on the SPD (might be a placebo effect but who cares…)
My unpopular opinion is that unpopular opinions should be debated.
Agree. Clearly they mean 5Nm (and then a bit more…)
Amen! But that goes for some group rides too, as I’ve caught people lapping my rear wheel and not know they were there. At least being warned kicks my awareness into gear. Especially the stealthy ones. lurkers?
Jerdon may not be the best example. It’s billed as a mountain bike race so most people bring their trail bikes but it’s something like ~85% paved/gravel/double track. And it’s known as a beginner friendly race- ORAMM is a very different experience in terms of the caliber of riders who show up.
