“Legs are feeling good today, I was too afraid of crackling my carbon rims”

Road is boring, and dangerous. Even as I lose my gravel roads to development, I still love being on my crux so I can hop a curb and rip a dirt trail and ride pretty much whatever I want. A ride entirely on road sounds about as fun as jury duty or a root canal.

Must not be carbon :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Re: The Minivan - SUV owners are people who want a minivan but are too insecure for it :joy:.

Sorry to you SUV owners, I’m sure there are lots here. This is in jest. Mostly

In all seriousness though…I wish they had like a “microvan.” It’s just me, my wife, and our 9 yr old…I don’t need a 7 passenger car. I’m kind of imagining like a Honda CRV sized Honda Fit with a sliding door. Or just chop the back row off a normal minivan and make it a tad narrower.

This already existed in the Element, but they discontinued it.

The Element was an under-appreciated gem. Not quite the same, but I also admired the Ford Transit Connect for it’s funky look and crazy practicality.

Yep, that would have done the trick. Crappy gas mileage…but it was also a decade ago.

In an ideal world…my next car would be something like that but a plug in hybrid. And super cheap, and I wont have to look around for one. Which means I’ll probably just buy an e-mtb to commute on and borrow my wifes car :joy:.

There used to be 2-3 of these types of small vans in the US market but apparently they didn’t sell. The bilateral sliding doors are just ridiculously handy.

Mazda5. But it was also discontinued. You could/can get it in manual, too. Underpowered but a true mini minivan.

If the Sienna could tow 5k lbs, I’d trade in my Ascent in a heart beat.

Very likely to pick up a Sienna once the Ascent is paid off and trade in my piece of crap Hyundai sedan

I’m having flashbacks to my teenage years and my family Nissan Stanza Wagon:

Dual sliding doors, no b-pillars for easy access, 4WD, mom, four boys and two dogs!

That was definitely not the Stanza that was sold in the US!! Ours was a 2-door large hatchback style vehicle!

But while we are discussing boxy car designs that were never really very popular, although I never owned one, I was always a fan of the Ford Flex. Rented one a few times and loved it…always thought it was a great vehicle for cyclists.

Definitely a Stanza Wagon and definitely the US (circa 1988)

My dad is on his second Flex (both times with the V6 ecoboost). They are great SUVs.

My wife HATES them though.

It’s actually just that noone wants to clean their bike.

It’s so much nicer being able to just pack a couple of bikes in the back of a car (seats folded or not) and have them clean and pristine at the other end for a race or event, instead of covered in road grime.
