Actually I did…
And that was not my intention…
I just reply to the last poster…
it is nothing against him, but about the feeling of this thread and the perception of “quality” of the forum…
so @bobmac nothing personal… I have absolutely nothing against you or your opinion…
I dont think I have a personal beef with anyone here on the forum. I may disagree with some, but when it comes to cycling, we are here in this together.
Just BREATHE people… especially during heavy intervals.
Joined TR year ago, I learn a LOT from a lot of you here. Much more than elsewhere. And I try to give back where I believe I know something (and get corrected when I’m wrong).
It’s all a learning experience to become a better rider and pursue your love of cycling. Unless you are just here to dominate and suppress. Plies stop. I just tend to ignore that.
Reminds me of a discussion a year ago in my LBS: structured trainings is for “losers”. Smart trainer is a “torture device”. Real men cycle outside 365 days a year. It was all ego speak and insecurity… guess who got dropped… the real “man”. Why do some people make it so difficult for themselves? You won’t ride herder or longer with a big mouth. You ride with your legs and mental set.
And which I would say is fine if we have an “argue about training style thread”, just one of them, and any posted into newbie questions could be moderated to there. It might take a bit of admin overhead to start with, but the new norm should take after a while.
Yeah well. It fits right in the sayings “speed is just pain leaving the body” and “it never gets easier, you only get faster”. For me, it’s the whole point that it’s torture so that I’ll mail it outside. Also, TR put me at pain levels I couldn’t fathom were even possible AND finishing workouts. So I can suck up more on the road, whether it is the wind or not getting dropped at all cost.
Same here! Didn’t want to get a trainer, I thought it was kinda lame, tbh.
I always thought “I live in Florida I’m spoiled with good weather already” then the rain season comes along with no chance ever riding, between life and work. Well here I am happy as hell I bought one it’s been my greatest asset to “get faster” consistency is definitely key.
Its not…
I hate it with passion…
I dont want to live here…
I want to live in a place where i cant get out of my house with at least 3 layers during the winter…
My wife in the other hand loves it here… So we are staying…
I agree. But there is a facility to mute some Forum members. I did this the other day and it made a huge difference straight away. Who knows if that person has posted here - but I’ll not have to worry if they have. And on other posts, I’ll not have to endure their comments which I know from experience I will not agree with - many of which just trash TR and / or Nate. If other folk do this then it can take the sting out of the conflict that we have seen on here recently.
Not you. I’m really happy with debate. But when someone is just anti TR (on a TR Forum ), argumentative and turns a thread caustic it just makes me click off. Then I found a way to negate this - and it has made me tune in more often.
I have seen some of this happen in other forums and I guess that some of you have too.
A few regular posters gain popularity because of their knowledge/wit/willingness to help other posters. These popular posters become prolific, posting on almost every thread. Over time these popular contributors may develop divergent opinions with each other. Because they are posting so prolifically, these divergent views, and the arguments for and against them, are played out over multiple threads. To understand the debate and the various fine points becomes more than most people are willing to invest in the topic. It can become a type of ad infinitum debate that is really off-putting for the other forum members. Overall the signal to noise ratio decreases significantly for all forum readers.
I don’t really know the solution. Muting them definitely can help, but it’s the fact that it’s off putting for newbies especially robs the forum of new opinions and perspectives that keeps things fresh.
Sorry if my post is “here’s the problem, I don’t have a solution.” I have learnt a lot here and hope to continue to do so (including from some of those prolific posters!) I hope that it continues to be the great resource it is!
