Plan builder and outside workouts, I did a 40 day trial in the fall, but didn’t end up subscribing until December. I love being able to do everything but the ramp test outside and workout progressions with plan builder make sense and make it easy to get faster
When they were launched I thought both Group Workouts and Outside Workouts added very little value but I have used both extensively in the last few months and now think they are hugely valuable.
Group Workouts - my friends and I find these great for tough short intervals (e.g. vo2 max sessions). The ramp test was also great from a motivation and accountability standpoint. We usually extend the cool down for a social catch up too. Really not sure why Zwift is seen as a more social platform when this function allows you real human interaction.
Outside Workouts - in previous years I would drop my training plan for the summer and maybe jump on the trainer once a week, with the rest of my riding outdoors. I thought that I maintained structure but, looking back, I was kidding myself and no wonder that I always plateaued each summer.
This year I have used both features and improved plan compliance hugely. I usually got to 4.0-4.1w/kg each summer but I am now at 4.4w/kg and feel like there is more growth potential.
Not many folks have mentioned this, and maybe it’s just the nerd in me, but the analytics. I loooooove all of it and it’s done so well, such as comparing seasons, % in zones, creating your own intervals, seeing PRs, comparing the same ride to previous one (which is so motivating to me!).
There’s just one thing that I wish I had that I can’t find my own workaround for…a tag or filter for different power meters. Many of my PRs are set on my outdoor PM as it totally reads 3-5% higher than my trainer. I want to only compare my indoor/trainer rides.
Other things I love…the podcast, especially Nate. Support is so so so amazing. Grandfathered pricing. Their no gimmick quest to always improve and make us faster. The cross-platform awesomeness, PC, Mac, iPhone, Android!
If I were you I’d offset the calibration on my outdoor PM by 3%, if using the outdoor PM indoors isn’t an option.
Hey! I passed this along to our feature development team, as I think a number of athletes could benefit from the opportunity to manually enter points on a data field (such as hours of sleep, stress level 1-10, calories burned daily, consumed daily, etc.), and visualize how the data changes over time in relation to your training!
While it’s unclear if that’s even a possibility within TrainerRoad in terms of features we can accommodate, I’ve passed on your suggestion nonetheless!
Shooot, I have been with TR since beta. The lack of being able to cheat myself in a workout (telling myself I am working hard when I wasn’t) was the game changer. The simplicity is incredible.
The support has kept me. The few times I have needed support, TR defines 5-star support.
If I can ever get a PM, I will love the outdoor workouts.
Grandfathered pricing (joined Jan 2014) and virtual power.
TR has in itself been a game changer I’ve been a subscriber for nearly 3 years and at age 70 it is one of the most important things I do at my age.

I guess Virtual Power was the game changer for me, although I have an actual power meter now it got me in to the whole ethos of powerbased training.
Close seconds are AT and AI FTP D which have made the process more enjoyable
Easy rides and variety were it for me.
I was using Sufferfest a zillion years ago when every single ride they had (8 of them maybe?) were, quite literally, sufferfests. Doing them over and over again was brutal and it was very easy to just bail on the whole thing.
Trainerroad’s approach was much better for a number of ways.
AT - I’m not nearly as fatigued
Podcast - the edumacation
The plans - so the entire program? Just being able to jump on without having to think about what I need to accomplish today is the ultimate game changer for me. Put in the work, see results in a few months.
