Really tough over-unders yesterday. Felt pretty decent the first 2 intervals, but the third one hurt and I broke on the last one. Not happy about it but some days your legs just aren’t up for it. I am down a little over 3kg at the moment but heart rate was where it should be so I think my FTP is still accurate and fueling was the issue here. Pretty beat up through much of the day. Much better later on though and woke up feeling pretty fresh.
Long ride today with Ashland outside. It was a beautiful day and not too hot. Headwinds were mild. That being said, 2 flats on the back half and a final spare that wouldn’t hold air turned this 3 hr ride into a 4.5 hr F This-athon. On the other hand, I did get some roadside maintenance practice in, so there’s that!
That is how I feel and after a workout like this, believe me, but my normal Saturday’s 5x15@FTP is a huge challenge in this weather. And thank you for your kind words.
I finally dragged myself solo up to North Norfolk to go up its most prestigious “hill”. Apparently it comes in at #125 on 100 Climbs, so not anything of note unless you live in the flat lands. I took the scenic route, so already had 45 miles in my legs, and had no idea of the lay of the land. So when it flashed up on the Garmin I just went steady and seated - came in 7th overall on Strava. Think I can nab this KOM if I go all out (and dump my bottles etc at the top ).
Was a pretty big day considering how little I’ve done outdoors. 76.5 miles /21.3mph. Should probably order a pizza now to replenish!
Went for some pontless ride outside just not to stay indoor and refresh my mind. No structure, didn’t care about the zones etc. 85F and 70% humidity caused that my HR was a little bit high I feel that my aerobic base improved - I was not even tired.
Ride flat as a pancake so I went harder for two biggest climbes on the route - they are both astounding 40s long! So basically it was the archetypical ride that you shouldn’t do it if you want to get faster
Today was revenge day, and I absolutely crushed it. Oh how sweet it was. Rode aero for reps 1 and 3, worked the hoods/drops for number 2. On to the next one.
I’m trying out putting an additional day of work into the week. Glad I chose a very easy one, as my legs were really sluggish at first.
Not sure if this will yield much benefit, but I can’t get much more time into my current 5 days (I already add a little extra Z2). I’ve seen the topic being discussed, but not read much about the outcome of squeezing in an extra easy hour.
The Holiday recovery week
Ireland was cancelled due to “quarantine rules” , Centre parcs booked at last minute just to get away, then my son ended up quarantining as a house mate at Uni tested positive so that put an end to our planned activities, tennis, soft tennis etc. So I ended up upgrading the parc bike to a GT MTB and hit the trails a few times at Shirewood Pines.
When we got back we did a 27km walk, mostly along the Severn river and yesterday I did a 2 hour ride around Bromsgrove.
All that was perfect prep for a Ramp test! I’d dropped it down in the week leading up as I felt it was too high, but guess that allowed me to hit the 20 minute mark again!
New FTP 329w… will see how that goes with first week of workouts. Do feel fresh again after the break so expect to get through next couple of weeks before the fatigue hits…SPBMV is on the menu, did try HV a few weeks ago but that was too much for me.
Edit: Think I’ve found the perfect ‘circuit’ on Zwift for me for the ramp test. Did Tempus Fujit and started the ramp on TR at the place where the road meets the water just after the old western town. It’s a 10-15 minute free ride to get there. It’s then a nice ride out to the turning place and picks up on the way back… The finish line for me was at the 20 minute point so that’s the nice dangling carrot part. Also got a nice 10:02 PR for the segment.
