What's the ultimate small saddle bag?

I said I have a quick link in a pair of Wolf Tooth pack pliers, so I have a tool. Seems like a chain is most likely to break at the quick link, therefore I bring a spare quick link and the tool to install it.

I completely understand how foolish it would be not to bring a chain tool on a big ride in the middle of nowhere. I’m talking about the other 99% of my rides where being stranded simply isn’t that big of a deal because I’m in the middle of a major metropolitan area. I only have my own history to go by and if I haven’t needed a chain tool in 15 years, the chances of me needing one any time soon is either really small or really big because I’m talking about it now

Just bought one of these inspired by the chain tool talk - will see if it’s any good and report back. It’ll allow me to leave a big multitool (topeak hexus II) behind if so.

Speaking of daysaver. Does anyone have experience with Essential 8? Is it good?

My lead out! saddle bag came in this week - having loaded it up and used it, I think I’m now done and will stick with this for all my bikes going forwards. Zero problems, the extra velcro flap vs other tool roll style bags makes it more secure when attaching & better protected from the elements.

Not the lightest even in the ultralight ‘racelite’ version Racelite Saddle Bag – Lead Out Gear at 38g, but the best for me.

This looks superb.

Edit:

And yet so close, so far.

So it’s not compatible with 12 speed chains.

I’ll let you know later today!

No problem at all breaking a 12 speed kmc chain. Will almost certainly work for shimano as well. I think ‘compatible’ and ‘pushing a fairly basic/standard sized pin out’ are pretty interchangeable in this case…

Got some bad reviews on Amazon.
Maybe it’s been redesigned this year.

I was presuming that the chain body itself wouldn’t fit inside the alignment holder - should be easy to check if you have a shimano / kmc knocking about?

I have had Speedsleeve on all my bikes for a few years. Really like them.

I use this pump on my gravel bike and it’s awesome. And then I just use a small ornot saddle bag for everything else.

Maybe people don’t know how to use a simple tool

There’s a photo above of a 12 speed kmc chain that I’ve just cut with the tool. Fairly sure a shimano would be the same

I saw - I was asking if you had a 12 speed Shimano and/or sram to fit and see

Confirm that shimano 12 speed chains so not in fact fit the kmc mini. The outer plate is too wide in the middle. I only use kmc chains so no major problem for me, but a bit annoying that it won’t be any use to others if needed!
