Where did you ride OUTSIDE today? (2019 & 2020)

My 10 year old keeps pushing the boundaries on his riding. This past weekend, we we rode the full loop of Slickrock in Moab.

Next up he wants to do Porcupine Rim. He doesn’t lack confidence!!

I got a Garmin 530 headunit a few weeks ago and finally got to try out the navigation on a new route, which turned out to be really awesome. Best ride I’ve had in a couple of years for sure. Lots of climbing, quiet roads, nice scenery.

Had this in the “which workout did you do today” thread, but since they weren’t really TR workouts, figured it would fit better here.

Last week was the last week of the Rolling Road Race specialty phase. The weekend was scheduled to be very light (only Truuli -1 on Sat with 45 TSS), but with decent weather and the kids spending time with the horses (giving me a few hours to ride each day), I did, uh, a bit more (387 TSS) than was on the calendar. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Planned out a nice 4 hour 120km easy ride for Saturday to explore some new roads. Aimed for 220-230, took a couple short stops here and there for pictures and answering nature’s call. Temp was 4-7C, lots of quiet roads and empty bike paths,

Sunday I originally thought I’d get an even longer base ride in, but I ended up putting in a few hours of work, so I found myself with about three hours to do something. I was reading the “sweet spot progression” thread a bit recently, and had the silly idea that I would do a roughly 100km loop I’m familiar with, and see if I can do the whole thing SS style. Packed 1.5L of drinks, a pack of clif bar chews, and off I went, warming up for 6min or so before setting the cruise control to 285W for the next 2.5 hours (one quick stop to answer my phone) Came back feeling good, heart rate stayed even at 140-143 for the first 2/3, then picked up a little bit to 146-150 for the last 1/3. Temps were 6-8C, perfect for me, I enjoy the cold. Have my sights on doing the same loop at 300W sometime, which would then fit TR’s SS range of 290-313, just saw that 285 is actually a touch below. Only took one picture the whole ride :see_no_evil:

Nothing exciting for me just a straight out and back TR outside session during my lunch hour.

Looks lovely!

Me and the wife did the Renegade Rambler 65 mile gravel route out of Farmersville, Texas on Sunday. I did the 100 mile route earlier this year before covid and it was a blast, so it was fun getting back out onto these roads even if it was just the two of us.

It was a little foggy with some drizzle in the morning but it turned out to be an awesome day!

The outdoors version of Carter again for me today, as it fits with my lunch hour and it was :sun_with_face: I made it a loop though back by a relatively new cycle path to add a bit of variety :+1:

Z2 spin in the sun with some hard-ish efforts up the hills. Nice day for it.

Whilst the weather was good, albeit it windy, I put an Outside version of Volunteer in my calendar and followed the same route as yesterday.

If you know, you know. Have you ever done Copperopolis or Leesville road races? Back in early 2000’s they were seriously legit fields of 50-80 in every category.

no I haven’t, but many of the guys I ride with on Wed night worlds have done Copperopolis. One of them is using Road Grand Tour to ride Copperopolis over and over again.

This made me miss riding to a yummy coffee and breakfast! Looks like a great ride!

The outdoors version of that horrible leettle man for me today.

It was supposed to be heavy rain but I got up to a revised forecast, that it wouldn’t rain till 3pm. So I swapped inside to out. I grabbed the multiple weather windows before that, the only problem it was one ride :cloud::cloud::cloud_with_rain::cloud::cloud::cloud_with_rain::cloud::cloud::cloud_with_rain::cloud::cloud::cloud_with_rain:

A beautiful day today for a road ride, if chilly at around 7C average, but clearly colder in parts and warmer in others. I did stop twice to recalibrate my power meter because I was sure it was reading 20-30w lower than reality based on my RPE. In short, I was dragging. But I stayed out for an enjoyable ride.

The money shot from below the top of the main hill climb, Ibergeregg. Most(?) ascend on this side, but I go down it, especially today. Why? Because I knew the side I went up, most go down, was in the shade and wet, which in temps reported to be near 2C, didn’t seem fun to descend. While this side is always sunny and thus dry. Where’s the Eddie Murphy gif?

I’ve ridden this route before, so the ~26 miles of climbing wasn’t new but I haven’t done this in a while, so maybe my dragging had to do with this and the difference in riding style from gravel to road. Dunno.

Sometimes there’s traffic. You don’t run into the back of this guy.

Even though I was on the road bike, I managed to find gravel in the first ten miles as I forgot my route (was en route to a different, less interesting climb) and had to get back on course, which had its own stunning and new-to-me views on quiet roads.

Average power was low because well, there were a fair number of instances of no peddling or back-peddling to move the legs. But, in general, I just wasn’t putting out the watts I felt I should have. Regardless, a good day in the saddle.

Another great post

Stunning :+1: It was :cloud::cloud::cloud::cloud::cloud::cloud_with_rain::cloud::cloud::cloud::cloud::cloud_with_rain: here this morning and the farmer’s have been busy so the roads are covered in mud and they are proper filthy.

It was a much better/brighter day today so I took the aptly named Boarstone outdoors. 2h of turbore or 3h of outside. I chose the latter :+1:

The wind was a bit interesting but I think I kept it mainly to Zone 2 apart from a steady pedal along the 70mph dual carriageway in the cool down.

Outdoor track ride using out door rides feature

This is the "old’ out door cycling track in Bathurst NSW Australia. Was originally a motor bike track - Jonathon would be right at home…

We have a newer steeper track at the cycle complex out of town - next to the BMX track that was trying to host a world championship race as Covid struck (and bad weather from memory).

And thanks to Renshaws Pedal Project in Bathurst for the great refurb of my older Orbea frame - ex pro Mark Renshaw is the owner of the local bike shop. Proves why we pay the LBS to set up bikes…
Worth a visit to view his collection of ex tour bikes adorning the roof space - apparently one or two rare bikes. Mark was the lead out rider for Cavendish in many sprint finishes.
Bathurst NSW - a destination point for trainer road staff once we can all travel again. Cycle classic with hill climb and crit races annually in March.

Does any one else ride tracks using trainer road workouts on head units and or watches.

Had a nice steady Z2/tempo/SS effort on some (lovely) new roads today. Power PRs for 1:40 - 2:40 and negative aerobic decoupling. All the sweet spot I’ve been doing the last couple of months is paying off, I think.
