I completed 10 laps, which was my stretch goal. I was able to join various pace lines during laps 2, 3, 6, and 7, which obviously helped keep the lap pace high. I rode solo for the other six laps. I ended up finishing 87 out of 1092. Lap split times are below. Laps 9 and 10 were the slowest due to being tired, riding solo, heat, and wind.
Lap 1 17:06.62
Lap 2 16:29.25
Lap 3 16:43.78
Lap 4 17:16.82
Lap 5 17:24.76
Lap 6 16:50.02
Lap 7 17:09.17
Lap 8 17:40.04
Lap 9 18:13.89
Lap 10 19:12.63
Reading about Unbound and all the fun the rest of you are having. Digging up roots and long forgotten irrigation lines. Thankfully the landscaping crew has a roughneck bar waiting for me. Feels like a squat and deadlift marathon.
A couple guys from the landscaping company showed up this morning to finish hauling the 40 yards of rock that showed up on Thursday.
Dry landscaping remodel almost complete, and I should have my weekends back by Fathers Day!!!
Did a big ride in Andermatt, Switzerland.
I was actually going for another loop but several passes are still closed with too much snow on the roads. Madness in June!
Lol, A mate said he’d see me today and he did only problem the start time had been moved forward by an hour. We both did a TT yesterday so we set off at a relaxed pace. We were quickly caught by one of the other local clubs and tagged on. A bit of a rapid ride but not much climbing, (the day after a TT we could have done with the latter and not also the former). I somehow managed to press the discard ride on the garmin but I think this is the route we took:
Down Bullock Road to Winwick, down to Hamerton and then over the A1 in to the flat lands, up to Ramsey, back through Holme out of the flatlands to Glatton and Bullock Road again.
Pretty pleased to crack 33km/h on a solo ride for the first time in recent memory - hardly any wind in either direction really seemed to help. Followed this up with a 10km cool down / spin + a 2km brick run!
I rode this weekend with some friends who are closer towards the casual side of MTB. Made for a nice break vs. my normal rides with friends who are faster than me.
It was nice being able to enjoy the scenery and company on a chill ride. Some good Z2 base building.
Solid ride @rkoswald, congrats!! I was out there as well, but headed home after 6 laps to resume Dad duty for my two little ones. We did make it back out to watch to watch the Pro crit in the afternoon. Was a great weekend and lots of fun!
@davisb28 cool! For next year I wrote down that I need to do a better job seeking out people I may know at events like these. Turns out that at least two people I used to work with also rode, one who finished a few minutes ahead of me, which means we were close to each other all ride and never knew it!
The heat almost got me, as it went up quite a bit mid ride to about 35 celcius (95F)…morning on the escarpment was manageable as it was windy and there was lots of tree cover, along with the worms/caterpillars that came with it.
I did make very bad /questionable decisions with my hyrdration and nutrition and paid for it dearly in the last 10-15 km of the ride but i made it through the cramps and warning signs of heat exhaustion and learned valuable lessons. Overall proud of the longest distance i’ve ridden, ever.
Oooh, I live in this area too. You were brave for riding outside. It was super hot this weekend and the gypsy moth caterpillars give me the heebie-jeebies! Congrats on your longest ride ever.
Yep, once you do a few metrics it definitely becomes easier to do more. Once you get the hydration and nutrition nailed you’ll find the 100+ a lot more manageable too.
The yard makeover project is nearly done, a few guys are coming on Saturday to add boulders and another 5 yards of rainbow lava rock in an area that didn’t look right with the old bark. Emotionally I’m so done with the makeover, so happy that yesterday was last time I had to blow 1+ hours dealing with decisions so the landscapers could do their job.
