Which model Trek for someone like myself? (Madone, Domane or Emonda?)

Got my posted updated. Appreciate the checks.

Yeah no, isn’t Madone “max” 30 mm wide with their larger than most 6 mm clearance standard vs UCI 4 mm? I have 28c on which are measuring a hair under 32 mm wide but have at least 4 mm clearance everywhere. I know I was able to pass a 5 mm allen wrench everywhere but didn’t have a 6 mm nearby.

  • I am comparing “official” to “official” values, to keep consistent.
  • Fudge is fudge and may vary from model to model.

Max tire size
28c Bontrager tires (with at least 4mm of clearance to frame)

Paint - at that price point, project one is the way to go.

Forgot to mention… stupid trek seatmasts / posts. I’m not in love with any of them, but on my Checkpoint SL, the big diameter round topper doesn’t do anything for the ride. The Iso thingie does things for big bumps, but not little bumps. The Emonda uses the same one. My traditional post Emonda ALR rides better than my Checkpoint SL with the big round integrated post. ALso, if you’re traveling via air and use large size frame, those seat mast suck to pack.
I think the Madone has a sketchy seat post clamp/binder that loosens over time. They may have improved it. The Domane may have the best post situation.

That’s more like it, the wording always throws me off. When I read “28 mm” I think 28 mm wide which is usually 25c tires although that’s dependent on rim dimensions.

the minimum 4mm of clearance between tire/wheel and frame is required by European safety standard (EN14781). On my bike the narrowest part of the frame is along the chain stays, near the bottom bracket.

I’ve actually had a couple incidents where road debris got pulled up into that narrow area and scratched the paint along the inside of the chain stay.
