So I was sick for one week mid decemberish so reduced work load but kept training
Got another virus the week of xmas and was fully out (wifey got the same one after and also was out)
And now I’m still not back 100%, very congested and RHR isnt lowering back to normal so i’m unable to finish the workouts. Next week is recovery week for SSB2 MV and then i start build…so i hope i’ll be back on my feet by then, it’s getting kinda ridiculous.
I’ve had a month of it so far. Was a bit run down with fatigue, started trying to workout again and kept failing the workouts, ended up with a few days of gastro distress and now I’ve the flu for the last week . Need to learn to back off, when I know I’m run down. Fingers crossed another week will see me clear.
I’m annoyed. My week off the bike was supposed to be between Xmas and New Years but I came home from our trip with a sore throat and I’m still on the couch.
Sorry to hear this guys, I thought The Season was over.
As a triathlete who’s just back after sick for six weeks; the first two weeks I stopped training altogether (I was up to eight/nine hours weekly), then a couple hours here and there, I’m back up to only 100-200 bike TSS per week, and my FTP hasn’t changed. (Ramp test on Zwift showed up 2W a Ramp test on TR showed down 3W)
I offer that as evidence that you don’t need to train through your sickness
Woke up in the middle of the night with a good sore throat, now including a headache. Was feeling great and planning to do a small C race this morning but now it’s hard to put that out of my mind.
In the end of the 3rd week of SSB Low Volume 1 was doing pretty great and adding Pettit/Carter workout on Wednesdays to add some more volume.
Decided to squeeze Carter it once again this Wednesday kinda late in the evening 1 hour after dinner and felt really poor through workout, even my Garmin concluded it was Unproductive.
Coming out the shower i felt a really serious chill and had to run under the blanket, the whole night was terrible as i didnt sleep at all and felt coming from chills to completely wet from sweat.
Dont really know what was the reason, had not the best sleep 2 nights before and what i thought an allergic cough a few times a day.
The next day i just mostly stayed in bed with a headache and my body feeling really sore. My RHR jumped from 50-52 to 63 that day. Yesterday felt better but the cough started to be worse. No headache just feeling tired.
Today feeling almost 100% but still coughing a bit. My RHR is back to 53.
Should i wait till the cough completely disappear or can start mildly trying some Taku or Dans to check how i feel on the trainer?
Also regarding my plan which i built with Plan Builder to my “A” event L’Etape du Tour, should i cancel it and rebuild one more time after getting all my easy rides in?
Bumping this thread because I’m well and truly in the sick house. Everything was going great, I’d just finished up SSB1 and was going on holiday to Tenerife with the wife, even had a hire bike booked to have a crack at Mt Teide towards the end of the week. I knew what was going to happen as soon as I got on the plane and saw that half the passengers were coughing and blowing their noses.
Predictably, I got a cold and fever mid way through the holiday and have been a mess since as I have fairly bad asthma and any kind of cold always knocks me on my arse. I jumped on the trainer yesterday for the first time in a fortnight and think I’m coming out the other side of it. Was supposed to start my Plan Builder workouts on Monday but I’ve had to reschedule some of them.
I’ve got a week long training camp coming up in Mallorca in early March that I really need to get fit for!
I’m prone to catching colds and not being able to shake them for 2-3 weeks, often resulting in a more severe bronchial infection, to the point that my wife jokes about my ‘annual bronchitis’
Ironically, she has been sick for over a week and as expected I started getting symptoms also. A colleague suggested this concoction: Ultimate Cold Buster Drink
TBH, it’s utterly brutal to get down, and I only do 1 a day as needed, but symptoms are gone and I’ve been training normally all week
For me this is as close to a miracle ‘cure’ as it gets, YMMV.
I got really sick all the sudden yesterday. My whoop when from 99% recovered to 2% within a day!
Starts at 2am I woke up with stomach pain, proceed to drug myself to kinda go back to sleep. When I woke up at 9 to go to work I called in sick, and went back to bed, my the afternoon I barely could move and totally bed ridden. I proceed to only get up for lunch and dinner, couldn’t really eat much specially solid food.
Knowing that my body needs more calories, I just drank OJ and Skratch labs for extra calories and hydration.
By 9pm I was feeling bit better, kinda like breaking a fever without actually having one. Eventually I went to bed and woke up this morning around 11am and felt pretty normal, with the exception that I’m still really tired. Skipped my workout so I can hammer on tomorrows group ride!
Then again I’m lucky most of my sickness are usually extreme but I bounce back within 1-2 days specially sleeping around 18 hrs when I’m sick.
Dug my way out of a cold this week, after being out for a week. Still have a terrible cough and lingering tiredness associated with it, but in today’s workout I felt much more recovered. It has been a nasty winter all around, so hoping for no more!
I was barley recovered from the last one when the one I have now hit last weekend - I’d planned to reset with a ramp test on Tuesday. I haven’t trained properly since December, and now it’s February. I still have a productive cough so I’m not back training yet.
Gah, officially in the sick house. Started to feel crummy but wisely managed to get in a hard group ride and a quick overnight work trip before knocking myself down with a high fever.
First time in a long time I haven’t even wanted to look at the bike.
I’ve been sick for most of January and ready to gouge my eyes out. First race is in 6 weeks and this isn’t showing signs of breaking. Have a fever and cough. Fever lasted almost 2 weeks. Horrid cough, keeps me up all night. I have asthma so colds always linger and turn to bronchitis if I push it at all. So frustrated.
First proper day back at work after a flu that totally floored me for 2 weeks – first 5 days I was just sleeping 20 hours a day with RHR near that of tempo ride. As it started to recover over the third weekend I picked up stomach bug that knocked me back out for another 2 days.
Winter has been a bit stop start already this year.
Nov-Mid Dec SSB1
Mid Dec – Start Jan 2 weeks of nothing
Jan – Mid Jan SSB1 (3 weeks) plan builder had me just starting SSB2
Mid – Jan now - bed
Now – Trying to do an hour of SS 3 days this week before retesting at the weekend and diving back SSB2 next week all being well
