I’m up for a Disaster -2, probably on the Sunday at 3am [Brisbane time: UT+10h] so it’s still dark & to sync with the Americans. I’d go for full Disaster if I was still in Tassie.
Congrats on getting your VO2 Max level up to at least 7.4 BTW!
Disaster -1 … complete. Full post over here:

Despite fairly consistent training this year, my current PL’s are 4.6 for Threshold and 5.3 for VO2 MAX. Do I really have any chance of doing Disaster or Disaster-1?
I am contemplating instead trying to do an e-century (earn the badge in Zwift). Granted that might be tough as well given that I’ve not done anything longer than 2.5 hours recently, but at least I can dial down the effort and choose a very flat virtual route.
EDIT: originally said Disaster-2, but that is too short for what I want to do.
@tomclune give Disaster -1 a try. You can always dial down the intensity.
This is at least the third year in a row where WWDD falls in week 8 (or so) of the FasCat 10-Week Weight Lifting plan for me. While focusing on leg strength, the riding portion of the plan has been all Z2 with some 15/15s and 15/90s, so no sweet spot, threshold, VO2, and relatively little AC.
The AC sprints at the beginning of Disaster -1 were surprisingly easy this year (maybe there’s something to that lifting stuff ). I tend to enjoy threshold so those 4 x 7 1/2 felt pretty good (but the 102% was challenging). The middle endurance section was a welcomed break given all of the Z2 I’ve been doing. The 6 x 1 1/2 VO2 were challenging but manageable. The fireworks are always challenging for me and I skipped one in the middle and the first and last were a struggle.
Anyway, long post to just say “go for it!”
I was considering this, but then some friends invited me to join them at Ray’s Indoor Mountain Bike Park in Cleveland… I am going to go play instead. Good luck guys, may your suffering bring you satisfaction without saddle sores.
No time today, but all the best to everyone attempting any Version of Disaster. I’ll catch up on Saturday, 21. Not sure yet if -1 or the full monty. Training is going well at the moment.
Well I gave the -2 a go at the track.
Took me until the third sprint to realise/remember “oh yeah, I probably have to get off the saddle for these”. Missed a lot of targets but gave everything a go.
Edit to add strava stats & map, the commute’s pretty flat with nothing too stupid required on the way there & back.
For those unfamiliar the track is the tiny loop at the top of the map.
A day late and two levels short. I’ll be back next year.
Trying to dial in a new-to-me InsideRide eMotion smart unit. First ramp was awful and I got the calibration closer near the end. It skipped the first big spike as well. These things…
@roleypup super cool that you did this outside!
Thanks!
Are you still going down to Hains Pt or is it getting treacherous now?
Congrats to all that took this on.
Not treacherous, but cold. Turns out I’m a warm-weather outdoor cyclist. I used to run in all sorts of freezing temps but guess I’m getting weak in my old age.
Anacostia Park is closer to where I work and has a nice 12-minute loop. I have to do a u-turn at one end but I’ll go outside whenever it’s above 50F and not wet.
