Oh and I don’t personally think that the smartphone is the way to go in the long term. It’s fine for now to build the software and integrations…
But we need to move on to either smart glasses that you can tap either side of, or smart mitts. Has to be something durable and really fast to input with. Moving your bars will have sensitivity errors and is probably just a bit clunky and limited.
I was amazed how well the steering worked given the limited movement my phone was subjected to. I only got 5 stars on my first attempt mainly from weaving around while sprinting out of the saddle, but on my second attempt I sat and span and got 10 stars straight off. I’ve not been back on it since, because I guess as well as it worked I’m just not that fussed… I’m on Zwift mainly to get fitter, running it in parallel with TR just as a bit of extra motivation/something to look at during boring bits of whatever YouTube I’m watching that day.
That said, I’d love it to come to the main part of the game, so I can apex corners on the road, avoid other riders, etc etc… but I still think I’d rather just sit and spin and watch a video…
It’s much more than the graphics!!! Many serious Zwift racers are not in favour of “Physical Equalization”, nor the fact the game can be played with a controller. The visuals are a huge put off too.
I’m not sure it’s remotely enough to put me over the edge to become a Zwift user, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction as one of the first things I thought about Zwift is if you can’t steer what in the hell is the point. Can’t see how anyone would be opposed to it.
But the lane changes are so smooth! To be fair I can’t knock it as I haven’t tried it (downloaded it but couldn’t get it to load) it could be really good. Hopefully they have put all the development into the gameplay because they certainly haven’t focused on the graphics.
My mistake, to everyone : my apologies!
I personally find it almost comical how hard they are trying to make virtual riding “real” (and wahoo with their headwind and forklift…)
Anyways happy training/Zwifting!
my intent with that comment was more along the lines of as long as it doesn’t get in the way of my workout it seems like a cool feature rather than a critique
I liked it a lot… did 4 laps as well, because it took me a little bit to get all the stars
Is it perfect? Nah. But after I finished the loop, I always wanted to steer on the road just a little bit. Sure, it’s not 100% realistic, but it WAS an interesting twist to riding. And frankly, riding the trainer indoors… sometimes I need that little twist. I did almost an hour of riding and it went by like <that>.
A plastic furniture slider works with great for steering. Just slide it under the front wheel and it pivots easily. IMHO, a much more simple and elegant solution vs. some of the other stuff people are trying.
