Zwift "Premium", TR Merger or Add-In speculation

Feature request - another holiday gift for @mcneese.chad

In the run up to cape epic one of South African lads mentioned his zwift power numbers and I think they were both TR employees

Perhaps ā€œsloppinessā€ is too strong a word on my part, but I still think they should have known someone would have put those pieces together. Knowing this forum alone, I’d have expected Nate to be like

Makes me think it was intentional. Someone earlier in this thread said it could be Min using it as leverage for another program such as Xert. Perhaps?

Chances of this happening are VERY high. I think Nate is smart enough to distinguish between a good offer and an offer he can’t refuse.
If this happens it will be because Zwift gave TR an offer that would be foolish to turn down.

Now, what I can see happening is a slow merge. Where TR stay as an independently run company for a few years, while Zwift integrates TR into their systems.

It surprises me how many people think there is no way Nate would sell. He’s had so much happen in his life and he’s always been very clear that he sees himself as someone who is driven by wanting to solve big problems and could move on to the next thing eventually. The team has split up and live in different places now. He’s talked recently about licensing functionality. Then take a look at all the negativity and entitlement from users (me included) and it’s hard for me to NOT think he’d at least consider it and see it as an opportunity.

I hope so… but I’m not convinced that the people at Zwift are that sensible.

Well it could be a slow merge due to sheer incompetence as well… Look at Zwift Power they’re just getting around to actually integrating it.

I’m sure kickr direct connect support is just around the corner.

I don’t think there is any chance of merging the two products into one, even if both companies merge together.
TR and Zwift have a lot of duplicate technology between them yet nothing in common. Zwift is facing massive technical debt and trying to integrate something as big as TR, right now is going to take a lot of effort and time, with the current pace of things at Zwift that’s like a decade of work and a lot of hard decisions to make along the way.
My hypothesis, TR just made a pretty good Adaptive Training API, they are offering it to select competitors and Zwift are curious if they can do something with it.

I advise everyone to listen to this: key bit from 23:30.

Zwift will open up a huge new customer base for TR, leveraging the marketing power of Zwift.

One thing is certainly not up for debate… our forum is better than their forum and should be the one that stays :eyes:

Nintendo used FUD? :-o

All this talk of Zwift using TR features. I’d be happy if TR licensed Zwift’s power based mileage! The totally meaningless Strava speed/distance totals of TR always make me sad.

Zwift km’s pretty meaningless too! I always use them because they’re higher - strava club charts!

Can we NOT head down the speed / distance rabbit hole here, please?

Take it to any of the 50+ topics already in place:

My gut feel is this is probably quite likely, at least near term - quite easy to do on both sides and nicely complimentary to both (TR gets access to extra revenue from Zwift users and Zwift makes a massive improvement in their workout/training plans).

Zwift is fun like, but there’s pretty important feature requests on there which have not been dealt with for years, such as the example already given about saving your ride quitting the game for example. And the check marks to see which routes you’d completed have only fairly recently been added - before the only way to do it was start the game and check which route badges you didn’t have, then quit and restart the whole game due to the ā€œsave rideā€ issue! Or use a 3rd party service like Veloviewer.

I agree it seems like Zwift has a huge mountain of technical debt, otherwise the explanation for why stuff doesn’t get fixed seems pretty weak. TR on the other hand is much more dynamic and responsive (helps the app is obviously a lot simpler).

What if all this talk about merging with Zwift is to distract us from the discussions they had with Peleton of them buying TR out? Keeping us off the ball of their true secret intentions
