2022 Specialized Allez Sprint

That’s certainly moving away from the idea of an inexpensive crit frame.

If the 105 version comes out for $3300…wonder how many folks would opt for a CAAD13. This seems like a deal.

Gloss black does not hide imperfections/welds better imo, especially in person.
Not saying that the colorful colorway shown on the other bike is super attractive to me, but it definitely looks better to have all that visual distraction going on vs. a plain black frame.

Also due to the sizing of the tubes, and weld locations (DSW?), the black frame’s specialized logo text is biased downwards in a really unfortunate and unsightly way imo.

IIRC the current sprint frameset is $1600? So not a huge jump…

I think the $6800 one if it comes to fruition would be some sort of halo model, made to make a point.

It fits in with the cyclingtips opinion expressed on some of their podcasts, about needing to show that alu bikes are cool/perform well/deserve good quality components. I’m not sure that I’m fully on board with that tbh.

I do wonder what the DSW and effort they went though brings to the table in terms of performance/ride feel though.

Something like this Giant Contend AR frame looks as good (if not better) than this new generation sprint IMO, and is made with more typical welding/hydroforming.

I will see if I can sneak a peek at the S site the next time I’m in the shop.

For reference when checking Trek, their Emonda ALR 5 is $2300 USD complete with budget wheels. The disc frameset is $1150 USD. Non-aero, but from all I’ve heard, this is a great riding alum bike.

I am seeing $1,149 for the 2022 Emonda ALR Disc frameset?

Seems like a nice deal tbh

Yup, sorry… that is correct and what I meant to type. Correcting now.

Or just get one of these from State. The local elite team in Denver rides on these. They are fast and pretty aggressive. Great race bike.

Can’t. NEED dropped Seat stays

Death by 1000 cuts. The rim brake was like 1300 the year before?

This looks way cleaner.

A New UPDATE! Just saw a post on the Specialized Instagram page saying “TOMORROW” with the Allez Sprint hastag… Guess we won’t have to wait too long.

Edit: Added the IG link 2022 Allez Sprint IG

I remember rim being $1,250. Not really that big of a difference from what you said though.
If it does go $1,700 that is a huge jump in the grand scheme of things from the cost of rim brake ones a few years ago.

It definitely closes the gap between “cheap” carbon and alloy. Makes me think more on the carbon = comfort choice

I assume the marketing materials for release tmrw will emphasize stifness and power transfer, with an aggro-racerbro vibe :joy:

get ready for many standing sprint clips and photos

Will reviews come out right away? Do you think media have already had access to it?

Yup, it’s likely to be similar to many of the other Spesh debuts, there is an embargo where many sites will drop their review at the same global time that Spesh sets. Just like happened with most of the main S bike releases in recent years.

DSW is about moving the welds away from complicated tube junctions so they are easier to do quickly in a factory environment, not about anything performance related.

As for this new Sprint, I’m sure it’ll look great with a good paint job, slammed stem and deep wheels. It’ll cost more than equivalent Al frames and they’ll sell piles of them anyway.

Does the CAAD have the weird asymmetric rear wheel that requires special dishing?
