Beer on the trainer is a new one for me. I’m not against it.
Mmmm, special sauce… #dangerdanger
What a journey! Hope he has an awesome day.
I’m going to be watching / listening throughout the day. I’ll add the livestream link to the top of this thread too.
180g sounds crazy after swimming, I mean I’ve done 120g easily in a hot conditions in road and gravel, but if you swim in ocean and get some salt water in your stomach and you’re top race tense and all that jazz. It’s a risky stuff. But of course that amount of energy expenditure must be tackled somehow.
Lionel Sanders will be 3 min down on swim, fall further down on bike, and fall even further down on run. I’m thinking 10-15th place or worse. He is not relevant anymore in the full distance.
…Now give us an opinion on someone you don’t like (!)
He’s overhyped but also underrated imo.
I actually like him. But that’s my prediction for him.
I am racing tomorrow for the first time, and my 2nd ever full Ironman. I qualified at Ironman Canada in 2022, after the race got cancelled in 2020 then rescheduled and eventually cancelled again in 2021, then deferred to Kona 2024 rather than take the Nice slot after the whole shake up of the World Championships happened (I raced 2019 70.3 Worlds in Nice, so it was a pretty easy decision to defer). It’s been quite the journey! My wife and I also had a baby since IMC and he’s almost 15 months old now which has made training more challenging, and especially the travel here and him picking up a cold. Everyone else in my party (me, wife, mum) have been “both ends sick” at some point this week with me having to miss out on the Ho’ala Training Swim on Sunday due to getting so sick in the middle of the night on Saturday. It’s been a slow grind back to feeling better since then with my wife getting taken out on Wednesday and my mum getting taken out yesterday (Thursday) - - she had already been battling not feeling well since our long travel day as well. Anyway, hoping for smooth sailing for race day tomorrow!
Good luck! My friends and I always say that if you get sick in taper, you’ll have a great race. I think we overdo taper and the extra rest is actually beneficial.
Long time waiting, have a great race! You deserve it.
Training notes and qualifying race report is here for those interested
Unless something crazy happens, Laidlow is gonna obliterate the course record. 2nd out of the water and simply rode away from the whole field with the 2nd fastest “legit” Ironman bike on any course
Laidlow breaks 4 hours on the bike…28+moh.
Insane. Beyond my comprehension.
Lange running like it’s 2017
And a 10k…
He has pulled back 4.5 minutes in the first 9 miles. So on pace to catch Laidlow at mile 18. It will either be an epic come from behind win or an epic blowup. Either way someone pass the popcorn
Sorry Laidlow. Didn’t mean to jinx you…
Great race, so much drama. Inspiring.
