Hi I have a training plan in the calendar and I know I could just do a solo ride and let Strava sync it into TR. but there is also the facility to add a solo ride to the calendar, I’ve done that, it’s there with a predicted TSS, but how do I use it? I ride and Strava syncs but how does the solo I added to my calendar do anything with that and is there any benefit? Think I’ve missed a step sorry

The main benefit is that these rides will stay on your TR Calendar and automatically replace existing sessions that may have previously overlapped with your Group/Solo Rides. For example, if a hard group ride fell on the same day as a hard interval session, you’d have to manually delete the hard interval session. Now, Plan Builder/AT takes care of that extra step.
The rides you do that sync via Strava should pair up with any Solo/Group Rides you have on your TR Calendar.

Ah ok I see so if I have a frequent and specific day for group or solo rides it would be perfect yep. Mine tend to be random so I can rely instead on the Strava sync as it would be random but on a day with no planned training.
