I am still using my first bike from 2014, a crossbike/Gravel, I am using with two wheelsets, one Shimano RX010 with road setup, and one same RX010 with 38mm gravel setup.
For more details about the bike see here
now one of the wheelsets starts to show its age,
there is some problem which forces me to get a new wheelset.
would like to update my Shimano RX010 road Wheelset to something more snappy, lighter, more stable in curves, also first time going tubeless (would like to put 28 or 32mm). The Gravel setup will stay on my RX010 wheels
What would be your advice for a reasonable set of wheels for the road?
Remember: the bike cost some 1500€ back then, so let’s keep it in proportion
There are a lot of great options under 1K USD now from companies like Light Bicycle, Hunt, and Farsports. I wonder what is the problem when the current wheelset and can it be fixed for cheaper?
something inside, the axis is bent and can’t be fixed, asked two shops - not possible.
But anyway I thought about switching to something lighter and more sporty.
I am in Europe so appreciating anything what is available over here
Hunt was started in Europe, Light Bicycle has a warehouse in Europe. My guess is that FarSports does too. I personally have purchased from Light Bicycle and think they are great.
I can’t speak much for the shimano wheels but when I upgraded my generic OEM wheels to the older generation of Hunts it was a positive move. It looks like you’d lose ~400-500g weight in the upgrade, whcih will certainly be noticeable.
It might be worth doing some research into how the newer wheels cope tubeless. My older generation 4seasons are really picky about tubeless setup and I have heard the same from others. I’d expect the newer gen (as with most modern orad wheels) to be better in this regard, but it’s worth checking.
Light Bicycle or BTLOS rims that are 32mm external, plus Bitex hubs and 28mm GP5000 S TR tires that will run ~30mm actual width if you want to follow the rule of 105%…otherwise, run 30mm or 32mm tires.
