Aerobar Front Light

Hi All

My aero-mount front light has finally bitten the dust and it’s proving surprisingly hard to find a replacement.
I’ve looked on other threads on here but most of the links are dud as the threads are multiple years old.

I could mount a light under my Wahoo mount as there is a mount for one but I often put a Go Pro there in case of dangerous drivers etc.
I ride mostly in daylight so am looking for a daylight light that flashes just to warn motorists I’m about.

The only one I’ve seen so far is the Ravemen FR160 but this isn’t very bright and have read people saying it’s not a great day light.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Haven’t tried it or read any of the reviews, but the new Garmin Varia Vue headlight / camera combo may be the answer you are looking for.

Exposure lights come with a small army of 3D printers who have covered most scenario.
A Trace / Boost or Sirius are all excellent be seen blinker lights.

A quick look found this option and I’m sure there are more out there.

I’m happy with my Cyclami RVL01, which is similar to the Raveman, but much cheaper. However, a be seen rather than see light, and not sure on compatibility with wahoo.

Lezyne strip drive. Mounted horizontally, it fits nicely on an aero bar, but does take up a fair bit of space on the tops.

The only one I’ve seen so far is the Ravemen FR160 but this isn’t very bright and have read people saying it’s not a great day light.

I have the Ravemen FR160 and FR300. I think the 160 is an excellent day light, not sure where you read that. If you are worried it’s not bright enough, why not get the FR300 instead?

There’s plenty of options

  1. Cheapest - GoPro Y-Adapter and mount two items (your camera + a light).
    like this: Amazon.com
    or this: Amazon.com
I’ve seen tighter ones where it’s vertical and will mount both in-line.
or even cheaper - 3D Print one:

  2. Front light that wraps around head tube like Knog Mid Cobber

  3. FR160, FR300 or Fabric Lumaray - all mount under Garmin/Wahoo

  4. Combo Camera/Light. Cycliq FLY12 Sport or Varia Vue

Issue I’ve found with the Lezyne strip is that because it sits snug to the bar on one side it gets occluded quite a bit by hands/hoods/computer for side on visibility. A light that’s mounted out front underneath the computer has better visibility from all angles.

I have the Ravemen and it’s a great clean option that still leaves the underside of the mount free for a GoPro if desired (and a lot cheaper than buying an additional combo camera/light like the Cycliq or Garmin).

If visibility was a high enough priority I’d say add a helmet mounted light as well. I use one for commuting when there’s a lot of traffic, a lot of background lights to stand out from, and I don’t really care if it looks a bit dorky!

Its only really to comply with the CTT regulations, but I use a Lezyne Femto USB on my TT bike’s aerobars. Its rubber strap means I can mount it almost anywhere.

I’ve been using Serfas lights, mounted on both my tri-bike aerobars and the ends of the drops on my road bike with aero drop bars. The Serfas mounting clamp allows the bracket to be rotated 90-degrees, so it can work on locations parallel with the frame of the bike or perpendicular to the frame. I do day-time riding with blinkers and night rides where high intensity is required and have been happy with the Serfas selections.

Thanks for the reply.
£450 is slightly more than I was hoping to pay though. I was thinking £50-£120.

Appreciate your help though

This is interesting. Initially I looked at the link and thought you meant the one in the photo but that looks like it’s for a round bar. But what I think you mean is that someone with a 3D printer could print one for a flat handlebar?

This looks good. Does it work well in bright daylight conditions please?
I’ll only be using it around country single file lanes so want cars to know I am there.
I don;t need it for night cycling.

This looks really promising. Going to look at reviews on this but this looks like something I could use.
Thank you

Weirdly I completely missed the FR300.
Definitely going to look at this as 300 lumens would be perfect.

Thank you for this

I just saw someone mentioning a Ravemen FR300 which somehow I had missed.
I’m also fine with looking dorky.
I crashed into a car writing my bike off and ending up in an ambulance a few years ago as turned my head to check my wife was behind me as the car did an emergency brake.
I put a mirror on my bike and it’s genuinely the best thing I’ve ever done. So much safer so if a helmet light helps me be seen, I’m fine with it

Thanks for this.
I’ve had some really helpful answers so using this as my backup as it’s not quite what I’m looking for. But I really appreciate you taking the time to help

Thanks for this.
Heading to bed but will look at this tomorrow.
Between everyone on here, I definitely have a solution which is great.
Thank you

The Exposure front lights are solid and what I thought of as well for this application. I also use the Bontrager’s for day time lights but maybe not the best if OP isn’t wanting to mount it under his computer.

I’ve been using the Bontrager ION RT 200 lights for years and am a fan. They tuck beneath the headunit with a 3D printed mount or Bontragers injection molded GoPro mount (which unfortunately is turned 90° on it’s side so you won’t get the sidelights in the proper orientation). It’s a great daylight running light and I highly recommend it.
