Funny someone mentioned Exodus - Bonded by Blood. Saw Anthrax Among the living tour with Exodus and Celtic Frost late 80’s in Detroit Michigan, around 87 or 88.

I hadn’t heard of it before so I listened to it on YouTube. Very cool, thanks for posting.

Exodus certainly aren’t unknown. I remember that album cover for bonded by blood.

I love Metallica. Try Orion as a warmup track and then Blackened when you want to hit it hard. I think some of the track from Death Magnetic would be good on a trainer as well.
My shuffle threw up a track that sounded just Metallica, or at least Hetfield vocals singing ‘Practice what you preach’ and I spent a good few minutes trying to work out what album it was from, before I realised it was Testament!

I’m not so up to date with some of these other bands. I’m obviously getting old enough that listening to old albums is beginning to sound like they’re new! With that…maybe a listen to Reign in Blood

Guess I’m older than you guys (49). Saw a thread for metal and expected a discussion on best Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, etc. songs for training, all of which I started listening to in the 80s and still love to throw on for training. Haven’t heard of many of the newer bands referenced in the thread, but will check them out–thanks for the suggestions. Also like Killswitch, Primal Fear, Parkway Drive, Iced Earth as far as (somewhat) newer bands.

Hah I’m in the same boat(ish). I’m 41. Metallica was the first concert I saw in the 90s.

It’s my indulgence that half the neighborhood gets to listen to since I open the windows when training…

In particular I’m currently fixated on:

  • Trivium - Ascendancy album
  • Trivium - In Waves album
  • Children of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll album
  • Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper album
  • Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder album

And at the risk of nullifying the self-labeled classiness of the above albums… a little bit of Dragonforce … I know I know…

Side note - Apple Music on AppleTV will show lyrics for most of those albums - it’s like a metal Disney sing along!

That’s so cool!
What an absolute beast of a drummer. Must be even more impressive in person!
If there’s an FTP for drumming, his must be like 450

Another one from the late 80s - Nuclear Assault, Game Over is a great album. I saw Exodus and Celtic Frost, too, no Anthrax though, closest city probably wasn’t big enough for them.

A mate of mine is right into metal… in bands etc. Not really my bag (yet?) but I explained what I need out of music during hard workouts / races etc and he built me the following playlist. Maybe some ideas for the heads in this thread:

Thanks! I was probably lazy again and haven’t look for other albums. I did enjoy Mesarthim too. I’ll do one shameless plug for my countrymen that started when black metal was in the beginnings: Master’s Hammer - Ritual.

Yes, he’s amazing. He found out that I’m a big Iron Maiden fan so he calls up Nicko McBrain (Maiden drummer) to have him meet us for lunch at Nicko’s restaurant. Unfortunately, timing didn’t work out but Derek is just a super cool guy in addition to being an incredible musician.

Orion into Damage Inc. to wrap up Master of Puppets is about the best one two punch to end an album with! After And Justice, I pretty much lost interest in them, though. Pre Black album was all Cliff Burton, obviously & what they did afterward really wasn’t anything that I was interested in at the time.

I really got into music with Van Halen and listen to a lot of 80s hair metal on the ergo. I’m not hugely into metal but old Metallica, a bit of Slayer, Megadeth or Anthrax is always good. Newer stuff I’m not all that in to, but I do like Sevendust.

Yep - I’m 51 and love 80’s metal but still love the modern stuff - any COB is going to be good turbo music as is Trivium - and I can go with a bit of Dragonforce as well even if I’m still not convinced the guitar work on “Through the fire and the flames” is genuine! - still Valley of the Damned, Sonic Firestorm and Inhuman rampage are great albums…after that er…not so much!

Some nice recommendations on here, some I had completely forgotten about.

I’ve been to a hell of a lot of concerts over the years, and one of the best was Deftones when they were touring White Pony. They introduced some band called Linkin Park who were new, they joined in on Headup, and the rest was history.

Seen them about 12 times, Metallica I think more than that. Now the money goes on bikes and to TR ; )

Don’t know how but forgot Ministry. One of my favorite to run to. The mind is a terrible thing to taste.

Rage against the machine

NIN, mid 2k has great music to run, ride to.

new Tool is 1 1/2 hours and just as good as the older stuff.

On the black metal front I’ve been jamming:
altar of plagues
Oranssi Pazuzu
Cobalt
Ludicra

Not so much on the trainer though. I prefer getting baked out of my mind and blasting my ears to the above. It requires more of my attention than other genres

Yea it’s definitely fast…but not great music IMO.

Ride the lightning, master of puppets, and justice for all. I like the Black album too honestly…but lost interest pretty quick when Load came out.

Another 50+ here. You know the metal bands I grew up with and I still listen to a ton of those. Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Fates Warning, Queensryche, , Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Slayer, etc. AIC is great for rides (Dirt is a personal favorite). So is Faith No More.

Some more modern metal (of many genres) albums currently on heavy riding rotation for me. These will all get you pumped up and head bouncing. If you like Sabbath, Metallica, Testament, Tool, etc - you’ll like at least a few of these. A few may require you to open your mind to a little growling
Alcest - Spiritual Instinct
Amon Amarth - Jomsviking
Amorphis - Queen of Time
Avatar - Hail the Apocolypse and Feathers
Death Angel - Humanicide
Demons and Wizards - III
Gojira - Magma
Khemmis - Desolation
Pallbearer - Heartless
Power Trip - Nightmare Logic
Smoulder - Times of Obscene Evil
Spirit Adrift - Divided by Darkness
