Not a huge metalhead, but I have a ramp test playlist where Dark Horse by Converge kicks in at 19:00. The chaos of the song mirrors how my body feels at 19:00 and usually encourages me to keep going for another minute or so.
Growling is the best form of vocals in my opinion. Really nice selection of music here!
I’m too old to agree that it’s the best, but a few years ago I learned to look at it as an instrument and not try to compare it to old school metal vocals. That made me appreciate it a lot more.
I picked the albums above trying to focus on bands that don’t growl more than they sing hoping the other old guys would give a few of them a spin. Come on kids, jump in the water. It’s not THAT cold
I like it - especially when they do it live…although much rarer these days as Jason Newsted did most of the vocals on the really old stuff when he was in the band as Hetfield’s voice couldn’t cope…obviously not an option these days - in fact I like a lot of the music but I wouldn’t want to meet them - they sound rather unpleasant individuals if there is any truth in the information that came to light about how they treated their former bassist. Song quality has certainly gone down over the years but I don’t mind Death Magnetic as an album from their recent past.
Not that into metal, but imo Cemetery Gates- Pantera is the most “heavy” thing I can accept. But my Spotify shuts down from time to time, I get a tool to download song from Spotify so that the music will never get stopped by the buggy app.
This track instantly grants +5rpm cadence
Ha ha, you are not the only cyclist listening to this Okey, my taste is certainly a bit more opened, but finnish melodic death is what I really love. I am happy that you mention Wolfheart - hope that you already heard Wolves of Karelia! For me , this is a current pinnacle of what Tuomas put together, but since the first concert I saw I am telling myself the same thing again and again and with every new album he just makes it even better \m/
I wanted to buy a ticket for a planned concert at Prague along with BRHG and Mors principium est - this would be nuts! But the situation with Covid s***t is getting worse again here, so I am not optimistic
So for now, only memories from Wolfheart - Insomnium concert I saw last time
Late to this thread, but hell yeah. So good. I’ve been mostly listening to podcasts through base, but I anticipate build phase needing some playlists.
I listen to lots of punk, hardcore, pv, grind stuff. Varies widely based on my mood and how much I want to understand what they’re saying lol
Lots of power trip over the last few weeks, for obvious reasons. I also really like the new Gag album, although it’s not metal.
Awesome man! I absolutely love Wolfheart! I’ve gotta agree as well that the Finns make the best death metal. Swallow the Sun, Amorphis, Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum are just a few of my favorites.
Oh man, Power Trip is a good call right now (R.I.P). Never listened to Gag, I’ll have to check them out.
Love Amorphis and Insomnium. Will have to check out the others.
yep…Finnish metal - the best - Children of Bodom, Nightwish - Lordi if you fancy a bit of Panto! - or anything European in the past - Helloween, Accept, Scorpions - or the present Rammstein, In Flames etc - I’m British but only early Maiden and of course Judas Priest really cut it in my youth from my homeland!
Another 80s speed metal lover. For VO2 repeats listen to SOD, songs are short and sweet.
Newer stuff Bleed From Within is fantastic.
Mick Gordon, though I’m not sure it’s metal but it definitely gets my cadence up
Just found this gem…Cool x Cool =
I see I have found my people here Seeing some really great names in this thread. Tomb Mold, Iron Lung, Slayer, Sepultura, Power Trip, Turnstile, Gag… I actually tend to listen to rap most of the time while training cause the tempo is more consistent and generally makes me feel more positive. I’ve played in bands and gone to hardcore/metal shows for so long it’s almost the last thing I want to hear when I’m training lol.
That being said I might try throwing on some Mammoth Grinder or something today and see how it motivates me. This band is great for hardcore and death metal fans alike.
One of my favorite artists is Leo Moracchioli, who runs Frog Leap Studios. He does pretty much exclusively metal covers, and does a bang up job of it. I think at this point he has a couple hundred covers, and I can’t think of many that I don’t like… hell, a bunch of them I actually prefer over the original. He does everything himself start to finish, plays a number of instruments… and is of course from Norway.
Toto - Africa is a well known one, as is Sultans of Swing, both are some of the more mellow ones:
This version of Let It Go is much more palatable to the ears
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
Tons of songs, worth perusing Frog Leap Studios - YouTube
I’ve been really digging these new(ish) albums:
Emma Ruth Rundle x Thou
Kind of doomy, slow metal with goth overtones
Ulcerate
just some good ol’ death metal
I totally agree with @dcr95, i don’t listen to this on the trainer, but will sometimes when I’m riding outside. Honestly, I mostly just podcast on the trainer.
Have you heard the new Mr. Bungle album? It’s pretty much a huge tribute to SOD.
No, I haven’t thanks for the suggestion am going to listen to it now.
