Any MTB Stage (or big single day) races on the calendar between now and Feb 1st?

I’m trying to find a big race or a 3ish day stage race to do before Cape Epic which is in March. I’d like to get this under my belt before Feb 1st.

Does anyone know of any races that haven’t been canceled?

Big gravel would also work.

As far as I know, Shenandoah Mountain 100 is still on for Sunday Sept 6 in VA. I did it last year. It’s pretty much 6 climbs & 6 descents, 100ish miles & my wahoo showed 12000 feet or so of ascent. Nothing overly technical at all but has some good singletrack for sure, both up & down. The atmosphere was phenomenal as were all volunteers at camp & aid stations. I haven’t registered yet but I reckon I’ll be lining up for this one.

Agreed on Shenandoah being a good time, I did the 100k last year and absolutely loved it. Planning to likely do the 100 mile this year again.

Also looking like ORAMM is likely a go. “Only” 100k, but includes 11,000 ft of gain. That is July 26 I believe. @Nate_Pearson would love to see you race here in the East!

Rebecca’s Private Idaho is still listed as on for Labor Day Weekend, but listening to a recent interview with her I suspect it gets cancelled.

Wilmington Whiteface 100k got bumped from next weekend to October 3rd. That’s a Leadville qualifier and pretty non-technical.

Big Sugar is a new technical 100 mile gravel race and another Lifetime event. It is scheduled for October 24th. It sold out quick though.

Who knows though if the events all still happen though. Biggest concerns now are protecting the communities hosting them, that’s why I doubt RPI will go ahead.

As of now, Pikes Peak Apex is still on in September near Colorado Springs. It’s a 4-day MTB stage race that’s new for this year.

Thank you everyone! I’m putting all of these on my calendar. We’ll see which ones actually happen as we get closer.

Please keep them coming!

@Nate_Pearson,

Look at the Grasshopper adventure series. At a minimum Low Gap should happen in January.

Point to Point Park City is still on as of now. 75 miles of single track with 12,000 ft of climbing starting at elevation.

Austin rattler November 7th. Only 100k, but lots of punchy climbing and a bunch of sections with loose marble-y rocks. It’s not technical in the traditional sense, but a really hard course to hold momentum on. Weather can be hit or miss in November, but it’s typically nice that time of year. Not a good fit if you are looking for long climbs or descents, but a constant grind physically and mentally for 5-6 hours.

Marathon Nationals is November 14th. You could do Austin Rattler the week before.

Actually, that is a good idea, maybe I’ll do that.

(MTB) Maah Daah Hey 100 (and shorter options) seems on August 1, 2020 at this point. The same group ran their seasonal gravel race a couple of weeks ago, as a TT format. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the same approach here.

(MTB) Big Sky Biggie on August 29, 2020 still appears to be on. We are the least affected state AFAIK, and seems they are moving forward with this one (50 mile is the long option).

(Gravel) Dead Swede Hundo, Sheridan MT, is rescheduled for Oct 3, 2020. Hopefully it avoids an early season snow storm.

Here’s a couple more that are currently still on the calendar. Both are on majority single track.

Laramie Range Epic on July 25th.

  • 55 miles
  • ~6.5k feet climbing
  • 100% dirt, ~80% singletrack

Emerald Mountain Epic (formerly Steamboat Stinger) on Aug 8th

  • 52 miles
  • ~6.5k feet climbing
  • 100% dirt, ~90% singletrack

Pikes Peak Apex is on my calendar as well. G3 near Winter Park was supposed to be a 3 day, but is in the process of being rescheduled for late summer/early fall and may end up a 2-day.

Moab Rocks (October) is a dream 3-day stage for me, but may be more technical than you want.

Wow - that’s some course. I can understand why it’s sold out.

@Nate_Pearson, also there is the Buck 50 (150 mile) race on the Maah Daah Hey trail at the end of September. Multiple options of 1, 2, 3, or 6 day options at 150, 75, 50, 25 miles a day(s) respectively on 99% single track. This is usually VERY small numbers in terms of racers, so if looking for low chance of Covid a great option (North Dakota is also one of the lowest states for numbers). But won’t be much of a race feel in terms of the low numbers of participants.

They had their 24 hour race 2 weekends ago, so the Maah Daah Hey 100 will be a go in another 5 weeks at the point.

Europe has quite a few events that work well for preparation for the Cape Epic, but I appreciate you’re in the US, so it’s a long way to travel. Let me know if you want further details of them.

EU is not letting Americans in now. :sob:

Talked with the RD and they are planning on holding the Dakota 5-0 right now. Sept 6 in Spearfish SD. https://www.dakotafiveo.com/ Final call will be on 1 Aug.

Msg me if you want details or help with attending.

Interesting, since that race usually sells out in under an hour (I’ve done the F5 refresh and fill race twice now)… I’m guessing the hold specialty spots as needed?
