I know he was in a very bad accident years ago, but just wondering how he is doing if anyone has an update? He doesn’t have much on social, but I hope he is doing ok. It was amazing to see what he accomplished in the sport in the timeframe he had to work with, definitely a big inspiration to me when I started riding a bike.
Hi @slade002 - Eric is actually my brother, and a few months before his accident he got me into cycling - (Now I wish we woulda raced together, but thats another story)
He’s doing much better. Took him the better part of 2 years to get back together in earnest. After getting hit his arm was really a mess and lower body as well. He’s incredibly determined as you know and also SUPER knowledgeable, so he worked on getting back step by step. BRUTAL recovery but he did it - got all of the hardware out of his arm in fall of 2023 and recently got back to his “day” job Chiropractic. He works few days a week in Cave Creek AZ. He’s riding his MTB now exclusively - no road bikes - and he still pushes the pedals 8-12hrs a week. He said he’s not going to race again, unless I can convince him to do something one day, but overall an amazing story of recovery.
He wanted to take a break from all the “show and tell” of cycling and just do things on his own terms. If you’ve ever had to change phases/stages/careers you know how difficult that transition can be, especially when its such a sudden shock. But for my money nobody better for natural training, race tactics, and no BS attitude than Eric.
