I’ve got no business thinking about new wheels at the moment but these look amazing. They should be aero with wider tires and reasonably light even with the DT350 hubs. Would it be an upgrade from Bontrager Aeolus 51mm wheels (31mm external, 23mm internal)?
I have the 34/37s on a Cervelo R5. They seem good but I view Reserve on par with the other high end in house wheel brands. I generally think that the premium offerings from brands like Reserve, Roval and Bontrager are on par with the Enves and Zipps of the world if you have the same level hubs.
I have reserves on my Aspero5 on 350 hubs and have been very pleased. Agreed they are on par with the high end stuff.
Bumping an old thread…anyone happen to have experience the 42/29 turbulent aero?
The specs look really good for an all-arounder
Inner Width:
- (F) 25.4mm (R) 24.8mm
External Width:
- (F) 34.4mm (R) 32.1mm
Depth:
- (F) 42mm (R) 49mm
Weight:
- DT Swiss 180 = 1341g
- DT Swiss 240 = not listed for some reason…probably a split between the two
- DT Swiss 350 = 1489g
Add in a Cervelo led aerodynamics team, a hooked rim, and a lifetime warranty (with no-fault crash replacement). I was thinking of doing with Royal Rapide CL or CLX, but now I’m leaning towards these. Unfortunately not back in stock until August or September (unless you want to buy the rim only). They don’t list what spokes they use which is kinda odd though
Bump… did you purchase these? Found them on sale and very happy with my 40/44 GR’s. Looking for a road set of wheels.
I did! Ended up getting a new Supersix around Black Friday and got a great deal on these wheels $1500 all in with shipping (DT 350 hub version). Because of the crappy New England weather I’ve only had a few rides on them but so far I love them.
GP5000 S TR mounted by hand, seat with a track pump, and they hold air beautifully. They tested really well from an aero perspective too.
So great to hear!! Since posting that I actually found a pair on sale for $1540 and it made it a no brainer! Ordered a cassette and rotors and will likely get some GP5000’s as well. I’m in Texas so I’ll be getting them on ASAP. Anxious to see how much faster they are than my 2.1 thunderburts or 47 pathfinders that I usually use for my pavement rides.
You’re going to love them I think. I’m running 32mm tires that blow up to 34mm…could probably be slightly more aero with a 28mm or 30mm tire but the set up is still super fast and plush.
I just ordered the 32’s as well! I’m fine if they’re a little bigger. Have never ridden on road tires before so I’m used to being pretty reckless with my gravel tires. The 32’s will give me a little extra volume, and maybe look only slightly less silly with my big tire clearance.
Did your wheels come taped and with valve stems? I am fairly confident they’re taped, but not 100% on stems. Their site isn’t clear. Other than that, everything is ordered.
They came taped and included regular tubeless valve stems (not the fancier Filmore version). I can’t remember though if they came with rotor lock rings I had some extras here anyway and was swapping rotors over from the stock wheels on the new bike. I’d just make sure you have some just in case.
Good looking out! Just ordered a couple. Not being a long term biker/experienced in working on bikes, a bit surprised all the little components (and a couple tools) needed to get the second wheelset together. Not a big deal but would be easy to overlook some small things for someone that’s never set them up before.
My spare tubolito for my reserve 40/44’s GR is a 32-50mm tube with 60mm stem so glad I won’t have to carry two sizes or worry about swapping them out. Granted now that I’ve moved to a thunder Burt measuring 53mm, I may need a slightly larger one.
