Someone eluded to VO2 and/or threshold workouts having the capability to auto switch between erg and resistance. Is this true? I have yet to experience it. This would be a wonderful option.
Perhaps an auto-resistance option. Cadence x resistance ~= power. Should be easy enough. Could add an option to calibrate your CR=P.
There are a few TR tests/workouts that auto switch to Resistance mode in the test blocks (2x8min & 1x20min tests) but that is all the ones that do, I think.
@Nate_Pearson : Please make this a thing for VO2 workouts! Auto switch to resistance for the interval and erg for the rest would make life soooooo much better.
I sort of understand the request, by why do you even need erg for the rest? Presumably, that is just a warm up and rest between intervals. Is it really that hard to do resistance for all? Or if you wanted erg for the warmup, or say some endurance after the working intervals, just switch to resistance for the VO2 intervals.
I find it annoying (with lots of guess work) to switch between the modes, especially for V02 where the intervals are so short. The best thing, so far, that would do is spin up just prior to the interval. In a perfect world Iād actually like to see what the resistance is currently at too, while in erg. Absolutely, love erg for āhillsā endurance, and even threshold. Iām new to erg. My old system was ālevelsā. Which took me a while to sort out but finally got it. It was pretty easy because the controls were at the main screen. Maybe moving the 1-10 levels to to front screen. ??
Essentially putting the rest intervals in erg forces the resistance down to the prescribed level without having to shift or otherwise manage the effort. And being able to stay in a big gear during the rest, enables instant hard effort at the start of the work interval, maximizing time at effort for the interval.
No, the only ones I am certain of are the two tests I listed. I am not sure there is even another one in the catalog that does the swap besides those. Only left the door open for the reality of the āunknownā that someone else may know.
The better / general solution would be to have a global switch in options or a one time switch for the current workout like āauto change to resistance mode for intervals above x watts / x % FTPā. No need to bother during workout.
Unfortunately with the history of TR development I have no illusions that this simple useful feature implementation will ever see the day of light.
I like doing this, an is one of the reasons that I use the Zwift workout player, itās a click on the companion app and with the play controllers, once selected once as the menuās keep positional memory press up on the left and a on the right to toggle, so donāt even need to lift off the bars
I would say that doing it automatically would be a bit jarring, i tend to come out the interval, slow my cadence and then switch it
This has been a long standing request, going back to 2019 if you search ātoggle ergā, so I donāt see it happening
I think this would be a great feature as it would help at the end of an interval. I hate when ERG goes from say 320 watts to 100 and suddenly you have no resistance. Sure you can coast or backpedal, but then you have a ton of resistance.
100% on having the ability to preset an auto response. I usually use an ipad and to have to stretch out over my trainer table each both before and after the spikes seems rediculous.
