Hi looking for bike fit tips to fix back/neck pain while riding.
This does not give us much to go on.
My first question is have you seen a good fitter recently?
If not I would start there.
I am 16 and still growing so i am looking for a temporary fix until i stop growing
As in growing bigger or older?
A fitter will not only make bike adjustments but tell you where you need to adjust .
taller
How much are you riding and how long into rides do you feel this? Is it like ten minutes into the ride or 3 hours into the ride.
Maybe someone at your bike shop or someone in your bike club, if you have one, could look at you ride and see if there are any glaring issues.
This guys exercises helped my neck. (look for the links in the description)
I ride around 4 times a day. I only experience neck pain when riding outside probably because of holding your head up but it happens within a half an hour of riding
Stretching and strength training.
It’s not a quick fix, but it will help. It did for me. Especially the stretching.
Narrower handlebars has made the biggest difference for me. Something to consider if you only have the pain when outdoors.
Squinting from lack of sunglasses is worth ruling out, by using sunnies too. It can cause tension all down the neck. Best of luck
Doing press-ups every day helps me alot.
Stack height and reach is important. What height are you and what frame size do ride?
Im 5’10 and in between sizes 56 - 54. 56 works for me but I need a shorter stem (80mm). A bigger bike will generally mean a higher stack which is easier on your necks, back, arms and shoulders as the saddle to drop distance is smaller.
If you ride a bike with a smaller frame the reduced stack can mean lower position and possibly strain your neck / back.
Can you get a bike fit?
Strenth and core training will certaintly help overall bike comfort.
Regular cycling and building distance will help. But if your bike is not the correct size or badly fitted you may never get comfortable.
seconded…these bikes come often with wide handlebars, especially if you’re tall. Mine came with 44cm.. then i got an aeroad as 2nd bike with the adjustable width and it’s now much better at 39cm. neck pain almost vanished completely. (only get it in really long 4/5h+ rides)
