Can I add one day of adaptive training?

I’m currently on a low volume training plan, so I have training rides 3 days a week and all are hard intervals.

I talked with my wife about our family schedule and was able to carve out an extra day for a training ride. My plan is to add a regular endurance ride into my workout schedule.

I went into the plan builder and the low volume plan is three workouts a week, but the mid volume plan jumps up to six which I can’t swing.

I know I can go through and add a reoccurring workout to my schedule, but it’s the same workout every week. I also know I can use train now to select a workout based on my recent performance, but that’s one at a time the day of.

Is there a blend of these two actions? Is there a way of setting a reoccurring workout that uses train now?

I mean I know the functionality exists because that seems like it’s what the training plans are fundamentally, but is there a UI for doing so?

No

You can probably abuse new feature for this (not sure, haven’t tried it myself yet):

Add solo ride for suitable day and when day arrives, use TrainNow for suggested workout.

Yaaay! Great news! :raised_hands:

The Mid Volume Plan is 5 workouts a week at max. If you switch to a High Volume Plan, that will be 6 days a week.

With 4 days available to train, the time you have available is somewhere between the Low and Mid volume plan. In this case we typically suggets athletes use TrainNow to add an extra Workout. TrainNow will consider the Workouts you have done recently and suggest one that is appropriate to your fitness and with consideration of your recent training stress. As you mentioned, you can’t schedule a TrainNow Workout in advance.

Do you like to be able to visualise your weekly schedule ahead of time? What’s the motivation to schedule the workout ahead of time as opposed to using TrainNow on the given day?

If seeing the Workout in your Calendar ahead of time is important to you, the alternative option is to switch to a Mid Volume Plan, which is normally about 5 Workouts a week. You could simply skip one of the easier Workouts if you only have 4 days available to train.

If you choose to add Solo/Group rides to your Calendar, they are included as one of the Workouts in the Training Plan. At the moment, you cannot add them on top of a scheduled Training Plan. So if you use the the Solo/Group rides feature to add Workouts to your Calendar, they would be included as part of your Training Plan.

Does this make sense @cschmitz? Please let us know if you have any other questions!

@SarahLaverty Yep that makes sense.

For the reasoning: yeah I like to look ahead in my calendar. I know everything is subject to change as it gets farther out, but it feels like looking far out on a weather report. I know it’s not 100% truth but it’s likely. I also like reading the workout descriptions and goals ahead of time to get my head wrapped around the overall goals for a week.

As far as going up to a mid level plan and skipping the easy rides, does that not adversely affect adaptive training? I was considering doing that but I was worried that adaptive training would take ride skips as “we’re working him to hard” and then lightening the workouts when it’s really just a matter of time.

I love this analogy! That makes total sense.

No, that’s the beauty of Adaptive Training + Red Light Green Light. Red Light Green Light gives us an idea of how fatigued we expect you to be. We don’t assume that if you skip a Workout, it’s because you aren’t capable. If you skip a Workout, we’ll simply adapt your Training Plan (if necessary) to keep you on track toward your goals.

Oh nice! Then yeah I’ll go up to mid volume and skip the easy rides. Who knows, I may be able to fit some in from time to time :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks for all of the replies!
