I have a grx cransket. I want to upgrade the chainrings to 50/34 from 46/30.
i am wondering if there is a possibility to upgrade the chainring but keep the same chainline of 46mm and same q-factor.
i thought of buying rotor offset axle Rotor ALDHU 24 / VEGAST 24 Gravel Crank Axle - bike-components
then rotor aldhu 24 cranks with shimano chainrings and ofcourse a new chain.
will the grx front derailleur be able to shift if i change the height?
i assume that I have the necessary cleareance and the chainrings will not hit the chainstay. I think it will be tight but okay.
Hi, I decided to buy your setup but I need advice.
I will buy;
Rotor 24mm axle offset
Aldu Crank arms 170mm
Ultegra inner and outer Chain Rings 50/34
Which rotor spider should I use? Do I need any bottom bracket or pressfit? Currently have Trek BB90.
I asume you have currently grx 46/30 and want to upgrade to 50/34
in that case you do not have to touch the bottom bracket. what you have is good.
in order to use the chairings you need to buy a 110x4 spider. In my case i had purchased a powermeter (power2max) so did not have to purchase any rotor spider.
however, in hindsight, it was an unnecessary purchase. the 46/30 was good enough. unless you are running spinning out the 46/11 top gear, a bigger chainring will not make you faster.
make sure your chain stays clear that big 50 chainring. in my case there was no issue but only by a couple of mm.
Yes, 46/11 is not enough for my trainings on flat. I don’t need a powermeter spider since I have pedals.
In 2020 checkpoint sl5 was manufactured with 50/34 105 crank set, I think 50/34 won’t be a problem.
Then I’m going to buy a Rotor spider 110x4 double additionaly above items.
I wish I could install a ultegra crank set directly, it would save me a lot of expense. But I need a offset axle right
if your bike came with 105 then you don’t need to use the offset or use rotor. 105, ultegra and dura ace have the same chainline. you can then get the ultegra directly.
if you have grx now, just get the ultegra crank and FD. it will fit the bike.
are you racing on the road? how come you have a gravel bike? as said in the other thread. your position is most likely the culprit if you indeed hold speed nearing the 50km/h
what kind of wheels do you have?
I enjoy bikepacking, long rides to villages and ride on gravel roads. So bike really really suits me. Lately I found myself in races. I know my position is the nain problem but when I am giving full bike not let me do more. Also I am on your point too I will buy a smaller crank arm to increase my saddle height to more aero position. I have stock bontrager 28mm wheels with pirelli 32mm road tyres, I’m looking for pair of carbon wheels.
