Can TR Levels / Adaptive Training get confused with Zwift Sync?

Firstly, big fan of the Zwift sync and want to say thanks to the TR team for pulling it off.

I think my adaptive training is confused. Yesterday in Zwift, I attempted Emerson -1, a 4.5 Threshold workout. I pulled the plug after 5 minutes or so, but my level still updated in TR (to 4.8?).

My last COMPLETED Threshold workout was Temple -1, a 4.1, which I marked Very Hard in the PW survey.

Adaptive training then went forward on my plan and suggested level 5+ over/under workouts for the remainder of my training plan, which I’d have a fat chance at best of completing (probably need a few days off bike tbh).

This seemingly erroneous level-assignment has never come up before the Zwift sync, so just curious if others have experienced a similar occurrence.

What did you select in the post-workout survey for the one you didn’t complete? I think TR workouts done in Zwift are treated as pass-fail just like outdoor workouts, so it will assume you completed them unless you tell it explicitly that you “did not pass” in the survey.

Thank you—this must be it. I selected Very Hard, but should have selected DNP.

I seem to recall TR automatically recognizing if you failed a workout and then prompting you straight to the reasons (e.g., training fatigue, sleep, etc.) and just skipping the 1-5 survey altogether. Not sure if this is different with the Zwift sync.

But yeah, definitely user error on my part.

Yeah, I think that’s the way it still works if you do the workout in TR directly.

Hey there,

Just wanted to confirm that this is “expected behavior” for the moment. If you do not pass a TR workout in Zwift, you’ll have to mark it as such in the Post-Workout Survey response (like how Outside Workouts currently function).

We’re working on detecting workout failures within Zwift automatically so it would work just like a TR workout in the TR app would – so keep an eye out for that down the line!

And don’t forget that the workout rating for TP workouts in Zwift is a 1-10 scale, instead of 1-5.
