I went back and checked my order history because mine aren’t padded at all. It looks like I got the Cell model which I can’t tell if they make anymore. I made sure to get a non-padded.
100% sling…
Used them for the last couple of month. I love them but they arnt really holding up at the stritches…if I can get anothe month of 60 hours out of them then ~200 hours for 40 bucks seems decent.
Theyre pretty minimal and dont weigh much…I like that they are full finger.
Highly recommend Spec Grail - unlike others, mine have held up very well for over 1 year (do wonder if the glove has changed since I got mine). Also love long finger version for gnarly gravel or cooler weather.
Thanks everyone. Since two of the recommendations were from Specialized, I ordered both of those models and we’ll see how they work.
Velocio also appear to have a nice offering if anyone else is looking. https://velocio.cc/collections/gloves-caps/products/race-glove
Yep! I am machine washing it though, so that might be a factor.
@chippywork I got my pair last year so that might be it. To be honest I’d have passed it off as a one off until I googled to figure out wtf was going on with my pair and found owners reporting the same thing on the Specialized website itself. All recent, so a design change might be it!
I love these and you could just cut the fingers to length if you wanted.
Fantastic for good grip on the bars with thin fizik tape
Specialized Grail. Once you use it, you won’t change it…
oof the reviews on these.
also google them and read the reviews, I can’t actually get a URL to paste. Every person is saying they used to be great but now the gel bunches up and do not buy.
Supacaz tape and naked hands gets my vote!
WAY too hot where I ride for that
Haha as long as I keep moving, my hands are fine. I’m a sweaty mess as soon as I stop
I own a old pair of Grail gloves since 2-3 years ago, and a new 2020 grail glove. The new one fits much better on the hands, I’d say perfect, and much more than the old one. And I don’t have the bunch up problem…
I sent customer service at specialized an email asking is the bunch up problem fixed:
Hello,
Thanks for reaching out. To be honest, our quality control department has made some corrections to the design, but some riders are still experiencing trouble with the gel balling up in the palm. I don’t know when these gloves will be fully awesome again, but at this time, they aren’t my favorite. I apologize for the frankness of this email. I just want you to have an honest experience. I hope this helps and that you have a wonderful day.
Cheers!
A shockingly honest response from a customer service team. Actually good to see.
Bought a pair of Handup gloves based on this thread - and I love them! Very minimal and lightweight for summer weather. Cheers!
I went with the Specialized gloves first. I bought the SL Pro gloves but the stitching was abrasive on the area near the webbing on my fingers. I returned them and went with the Grail, but the later reviews were accurate for me and I had rolling of the stitching on the gel pad that started feeling like a blister after just a three hour ride, so those have been binned.
Next up, HandUp. My wife has a pair and likes them, but I would much prefer a plain black glove over the flashier patterns and phrases like “Send it” on the palms, so they weren’t my first choice. I’ll report back.
Shimano S-Phyre gloves are unpadded….could be worth looking at.

I’m going to give these a try
You were not kidding. Not one option that isn’t gross Summer Gloves | Product Collection by HANDUP
This is basic marketing…you wanna do splashy, colorful gloves, go for it…but include a pair of basic black gloves, too. You are leaving out a wide swath of potential consumers, otherwise.
