I have been noticing that I am not clipped in as good as I used to be. I got down and examined my pedals and found something disturbing! Carbon pedals can wear to the breaking point. My pedals had 18000 miles on them. They were a set of Ultegras that I got back in 2016. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this?
I have with Look Keo’s. Mine actually broke (not in a race, phew!). Before that they felt loose as you describe. Now I pay more attention to that.
Happens with some Look and Time models in particular, since the bodies are pure plastic with no metal support/wear plate.
I have a pair of old Mavics with the same problem. Best to replace them entirely if possible, because new cleats only fix part of the problem.
This actually happened where the forward cleat grabs underneath the pedal. I will post a link to my video so you can see what I’m talking about. I don’t think any of them have metal here.
I just put a new set on today, but I never knew this was a thing. Seems dangerous.
Ahhhhhh, that location wasn’t clear in your OP. Right that all I can think of (besides the low end Shimano one that’s a metal body) are pure plastic on the front hook. Maybe unique to have wear there vs the more load bearing flats, but anything will wear with enough friction.
