Career Progression Levels

Morning.

Just did an alternate session today from the suggested workouts (was set for a 2 hour 95TSS Endurance but don’t have time).

It suggested a 9.8 breakthrough Anaerobic session as an alternative in it’s place for the same TSS. All my other breakthrough sessions I’ve attempted have maybe been a 5 in other career areas?

It was pretty brutal and I completed it but jesus, I’ve got jelly legs now. FTP went up 3 watts.

This is the first time I’ve seen such a huge jump in a breakthrough suggested alternative workout, my anaerobic level before this session on the progression chart was 1.0!?

Is there some sort of AI magic going on in the background here, understanding what my strengths are? I do like hard efforts with recoveries and it did say when I uploaded my data;

Power Phenotype: Puncheur

You excel at strong, punchy efforts that make you competitive on short, steep climbs and rolling terrain, where you attack repeatedly and recover quickly. Your ability to surge over hills and power through rolling courses gives you an edge in races that feature short, sharp climbs.

Cheers

I think I’ve got the gist of what the post was saying, to condense it down;

Machine learning is looking at your data and rather than drip feeding improvements through incremental career changes, if it thinks you’re capable (through the dataset you provide it) at completing something that plays to your strength, you’re probably going to see bit jumps in suggestions (progression levels)

Correct.

But to be precise, its suggestions are in context of your today’s fatigue level, i.e. after hard threshold day, main suggestion is likely endurance workout and alternative attack workout might be at much lower level. Plus instead of anaerobic, it is probably on/off kind of VO2max workout. But this varies a lot. For example, because during winter my training load is about half of summer weekly load, TrainNow often still suggests anaerobic workouts even after long Sweetspot day. YMMV

I’ve just stumbled on power phenotype today and I am apparently a sprinter. I am not sure that the power in short bursts is not just because i am unfit and have no top end to keep it going… but anyway…

I was pretty chuffed to see that i find myself in the exalted company of one Mark Cavendish, but come on TR…ONE of the greatest sprinters - surely you need to edit to THE greatest sprinter…

Hahaha
I found the same thing one day. In my day I was a climber. Now days im just that old guy.
