I mean…this is him saying he does better on it without a doubt. his million questions was how to best deal with it with cycling because he can see how it’s limiting him in cycling.
but yeah you are right…seeing this thread go sideways was predictable. yay internet. if we were all at a coffee shop talking in person, I promise Wirt would never say to my face (or OP) that it’s the DUMBEST thing ever - especially without being asked his/her opinion. but anyone can type anything.
Outstanding. Ketogenic diets used to be the treatment for seizures long ago and migraines have many similar aspects. I’m glad your wife was able to get this sorted despite all the “help” from medicine doctors. I know they mean well, but their primary tools are medications and they just don’t have time for anything else.
It’s been a while since I was eating keto but my teeth were at their cleanest when I eschewed carbs. They rarely needed to be brushed since they were always squeaky clean. Stuff like this sounds crazy when you haven’t actually experienced it for yourself.
Then you can add in the other issues with land use and related waste to the pile of considerations related to meat production. So there are at least a couple angles of concern with meat and potential increase in demand.
Interesting discussion here. I keep hearing this low carb stuff again and again and is totally contrary to what we’ve seen pro cycling athletes prove anectodally in competion and training. And yet I stumble on yet another “expert” that says carbs are bad for us… Tim Noakes is a great example. I’d really like to know how someone with so much experience can come to a completely different conclusion and justify it.
He’s pretty controversial. He followed his own diet and ended up having to take medications to control his fasting glucose.
I believe both low carb and high carb diets (as well as balanced diets) can work (at least for this N=1), but I also think we need to be careful to scrutinize those who provide the data and what their motivation is.
It is interesting. I think there is still probably some things that we don’t totally understand when it comes to diet. I personally think that endurance athletes perform better on carbs.
But I also know that cows aren’t going to destroy the world. It is God’s intention that we eat animals and having them on the planet isn’t going to destroy it. Gen 9:3.
Having a Phd doesn’t make you an expert in everything nor does it mean that you can’t go off your rocker.
Linus Pauling won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry but then somehow became an expert in biology, and megavitamin therapy, especially vitamin C. His theories on vitamin supplements did not win him a 2nd Nobel prize. He thought that vitamin C would cure cancer and heart disease.
The greenhouse (methane) gasses will get produced anyway. Methane is a normal product produced during the decay of plant matter. Either in cattle, in us or just were the plants rot.
Without animal husbandry we would need far more land to grow food. When you read animals feed is X% of crops grown what they don’t tell is that the crops are grown for human use but since most parts of crops are indigestable for us but not animals we feed them what would otherwise be waate
Known as Nobel disease.
Some great examples of other Nobel winners who went on to be crazy.
PhDs can be great and they are much better balanced now but as soon as you get the Dr title you apply it to everything. I have been wrong about things but my title and my arrogance has led me to believe it until proven wrong. I have learnt to manage this better as I’ve got older.
