Ceramic coat spray for matte frame?

Just got a new supersix in that matte “carbon raw” color. It’s lovely but I didn’t realize how easily it smudges. I was getting a bike fit and the fitter recommended ceramic coating the bike with a spray. It’s not the actual ceramic coat on cars from what I understand but similar protection.

He said it preserves the matte but there is a slight sheen, which I don’t think I’d mind. Anyone try this out and can comment on results?

I have a tarmac SL7 in raw carbon and have used a semi-permanent ceramic coating since I’ve had it. I am a fan of the Opti-coat/Optimum product line. I use it on ALL my frames. I have a friend in another state who is in the car detailing business, and is a certified applier of the main permanent Opti-coat ceramic coatings. He recommends using Opti-coat Hyper Seal about once per year. I will generally strip my bikes down to the frame and then clay bar them prior to applying the Hyper Seal. It really makes cleaning a breeze and I’ve found that dust and dirt wipe away much easier. It does add a smoothness to the “raw” carbon finish, but I prefer it.

If I had access to the Opti-Coat pro (permanent ceramic coating, only sold to certified appliers), I would totally use it on all my frames. I have also applied the Optimum Gloss Coat to bike frames, and found that to be a good product as well, but definitely adds more of a sheen than the Hyper Seal.

Anyway, I’m not an expert at this stuff and you may have different preferences and experiences, but just wanted to share my experience with semi-permanent ceramic coatings. I will always use ceramic coating of some kind on my bikes and cars going forward.

I have been using Muc Off Matt Finish Detailer on my SL7 for over a year now. It leaves some sort of coating that helps repel stuff.

I have a 2022 Supersix in “barbeque” which is a matt black. I use a ceramic coat regularly and it works well. It does add a very slight sheen to the black. It does clean up easier.
