Chad's Departure

I’m a structural engineer and was once told by a computer programmer trying to sell my company his design software that they didn’t need structural engineers. All they had to do was program the building codes into their AI/ML software and the most efficient building designs would be created. Maybe…but do you want to live in a high-rise condo designed by “AI”? Do you trust a bridge created by AI/ML software created by someone who didn’t study structural engineer? Not saying this is equivalent, just brought me back to a funny memory.

I think the analogy is pretty spot on. Not to say this is what is happening with, or even is the future of TR, but it’s certainly a valid concern IMO.

Speaking for myself, I sometimes struggle to remember that while the podcast creates a sense that we have friends in the TR team, we actually know nothing about these people. We feel entitled to some sort of explanation in situations like this–see also the Zwift merger rumour-- because they all seem like sensible, reasonable, even nice people. But they aren’t our bike buddies, we don’t know them, and they aren’t accountable to us, as much as it feels like they should be. They don’t have to explain themselves, their decisions or processes any more than the supermarket or the local garage needs to explain its staffing and accounts to me.

Yeah me too. So this came as a surprise.

No doubt he has been instrumental in TrainerRoad. But these things happens. Good luck to Chad, whatever he decides to do.

You let AI/ML do the INITIAL plan, and you verify and change whatever you need to change.

Unless TR has a way to analyze real ride data and look for tells in HR relative to power (e.g.), progression levels and AI training plan development is still almost entirely beholden to subjective user feedback. While that is critical in coaching, it’s not the entire story. The downfall being that the user can purposefully or inadvertently game the algorithm to achieve the outcome they want.

With human workout review from a coach, the subjective feedback is part of it, but so is the actual physiological response and tells in the data. Now, if you have a coach that isn’t reviewing at least your key workouts daily and adjusting your plan and/or providing feedback, I’d submit you should find another coach.

That’s my $0.02, and again, not intended to steer anyone away from TR - it’s as good a value as there is for what it is.

I think the thread is something about Chads’s iPhone going off because he didn’t wash it after his ride. Or something like that?

Yeah, you are right. Sadly, I have been thinking more about his leadership style than I should be. It is not like all the subscriptions I have I know what the CEO is thinking and she/he/they are certainly not on a podcasts weekly. That said, we (or at least I have) have supported prices increases, beta tested stuff and sucked down beet juice in the name of getting faster in the name of TR. Hell, I even did fasted workouts for a year or two, It is almost like we are paying to be apart of the TR community and org (in a dotted line fashion via our paychecks). Thus, we expect our Compadre to be treated with a lot more respect. Not saying anything we would have deduced it was involuntary.

If I go all conspiracy it also could mean the Chad was simply an employee and probably had some ISO shares v being a co-founder… Something, I assume was very different based on said post. Which also is an indication of leadership styles. But hey, Chad is a grown man. I am sure he cut a deal that was worth it to him at the time. Nonetheless, time heals everything. Chad will be fine. Nate might do this differently going forward and we will continue to pay to look at those painful blue bar graphs with no error bars in the name of getting faster.

TL; DR
Treat people how you want to be treated.

That goes against everything that woke culture stands for!

Gotta say…most people who use the term woke have some serious misunderstandings about…well everything. It might be worthwhile to look up a bit of history about the term if you think it is a bad thing.

Remember that time Nate tried to guilt us into donating to BLM because “we are the problem”…yeah I remember clearly.

What was such a great thing?

Also…a little thing from the system popped in here about this being your first post in 3 years.

Did you REALLY come back after 3 years just to whine about people being nice to minorities?

I think we’re done here…you seem awfully unhinged. Have a nice night.

Who else thinks it would be rad to see Chad on peleton now!?

“The terms woke and wokeness are thrown around with abandon in a way to label anyone who fails to agree with the bigots and hate mongers.”

Woke… That a word for respect and common decency? Why is it always white people screaming the woke injury? (Huge assumption on my part). I mean just because white people did everything humanly possible to eradicate indigenous people and stuck them in concentration camps called reserves when they couldn’t kill them all off doesn’t mean white people didn’t have it really hard right? I mean decades of slavery was just as hard for the white owners as it was for the slaves right?

Why should we remember it at all when all segments of society had it equally hard and all profited from it the same?

Why should we be trying to make reparations for for all those good things white folk did for us? Heck in Canada indigenous own %6.3 of all land and control next to none of it as it is managed THANKFULLY by the white folk (government). As they are of course unable to manage the land or resources on it. Its just smart that White folk take all the profit from their the land right?

In the United States Indigenous people own %2 of the land and it is held in trust for them by white folk (government). As they are of course unable to manage the land or resources on it. Its just smart that White folk take all the profit from their land right?

Of Course 99% of the land they do have is utter shite and the white folk (government) take it whenever the hell they want if they can profit from it.

Just because a good portion of indigenous people do not have access to clean drinking water, health care, decent education, banking, or other basic services doesn’t mean they have the right to bitch about it!!!

Thankfully the IRISH don’t have an issue with the wokeness injury. They raised money and sent it to tribes in the US as the US government did next to nothing to help indigenous people through covid.

But then over 5700 indigenous women have been murdered or have gone missing in the USA since they started tracking it. Good thing is Wokeness doesn’t exist in this circumstance at is almost completely ignored.

I apologize for what you have to put up with.

What problem… Just deny it, that way the problems don’t exist right? You have been so wronged by TR I am shocked that you still pay for it and contribute here. I applaud your stand against reality, justice and social decency.
