Chad's Departure

Don’t know the circumstances but off the cuff (kind of like the announcement)… this is in my mind going to far. I am almost 1% certain that Coach Chad will show up soon as the “Coach” face at a competitor.

I would agree that jobs/roles are easily replaced for the vast majority of work places. But this rule doesn’t apply to the high performers (i.e., the talent, leaders, etc.) that are critical to an organization. Chad was part of the TR brand - his association w/ TR provided level-headed credibility that is now missing.

We all want to believe that the world would come to a standstill if we left, or if our favorite leader left. It just doesn’t work that way in the real world. There are many people in the world that are smarter, more charismatic, more influential, better spoken, etc. than Chad. If TR truly needs that role to continue operations, they can hire any one of them. Who’s to say TR even needs or wants to replace Chad with a similar person?

I’m sure Chad was an important contributor to TR’s initial success. But even Chad admitted that he is no longer nearly as important to company’s ongoing success. My money’s on TR continuing as if though nothing happened and on most subscribers not really noticing or knowing who Chad was.

None of this is meant to attack or diminish Chad in any way, but he is absolutely replaceable.

What is un-credible about Nate, Jonathan or Ivy?

Nothing.

I think what he means is that the “brain” of TR is now gone. The rest are of course great in their respective way, and they add their piece of the puzzle.

What Chad contributed to the podcast is hard to replace, as a lot was his personality and way of talking about things. It brought a balance to the group.

Chad was a true coach/trainer for cyclists. Nate doesn’t even ride bikes anymore or race and Jonathan is a triathlete.

That is just a silly statement….what they are doing currently doesn’t negate their cumulative experience and knowledge.

(Side note…this isn’t an airport. You don’t need to announce your departure)

I find it hard to relate to someone not racing with limited experience. Nate for the most part is still a Fred. He’s like the team sponsor who goes to training camp to ride with the team.

Being a coach or being credible has zero to do with racing experience. Many top level coaches sucked as athletes or never even tried.

I’m sure the guy who was listed as the co-founder of the company had zero interest in the same growth of the company.

I’m not saying he wasn’t interested in growth.

I’m saying he was the least likely to dive head first into the latest fad. He was seemingly the most knowledgeable and experienced from a training perspective, and probably had the most reputation to lose when it came to training methodologies.

I think it’s useful to have a single person accountable that the training methods are sound, and a reputation at stake if they aren’t. That is/was/could part of the difference between this and every other AI based training app.

I agree That Chad is replaceable as long as it is with a Chad or an Amber type. I like getting the real science and I am entertained by the Bro or Sis science. But the Bro and Sis science while entertaining does not hold my interest for long. I don’t need more n=1 or 2 stuff. I have not listened to the latest podcast and turned it off part way into the chad departure podcast. I will go back when there is not racing to watch on Eurosport and decide then.

While Sweet Spot training may not be a “fad” it was certainly the hot trend in training as TR hit its stride.

I have always found change scary and hard to cope with.
But I’ve learnt to cope better .
I have good memories of the TR team, but their lives have changed, new faces are here .
Ivy and Hannah are inspiring to me, as pros ,both competing at top level, and have a lot of knowledge to pass on to us.
I’ve read your post several times ,and still not sure what question to which you are looking for an answer?
I’m not sure why you would unsubscribe from the podcast or the Forum? You don’t have to pay extra for those.
Maybe you need a different kind of inspiration, like, a personal coach?

Lots of posts saying that of all the TR people, Chad had the most experience training and racing and studying those things. I could be wrong, but I would bet Amber and Jonathan have a word or two to say about that. Speaking of Amber, if your key criteria is that TR lost their most credible athlete who has their finger on the pulse of modern training and racing, isn’t that person Amber? Why weren’t all these people threatening to leave TR or saying TR was moving backward when Amber left? “No one left at TR rides much any more” is another common complaint. Chad himself admitted he wasn’t, and we all know Jonathan trains constantly, so that argument doesn’t really work either. We have no idea what Chad did, but Nate and Chad have both said it was something bad, so I don’t get why so many people are emotionally involved in what I see as various straw arguments.

Wait where did Chad or Nate say Chad did something bad, or am I misreading this?

Start by rewatching the video. Then go to Chad’s post.
