I was at a charity ride (not race) last year. Going up a hill, mountain, whatever you want to call it (any incline that lasts for more than 60 seconds is a mountain when you’re from Florida), this guy passed me.
Then I passed him on the descent.
He passed me again on the next up. And I passed him again on the descent.
I was wondering what was going on until, as he passed me on the third up, I heard, “wheeeeeeee.” Then I chuckled to myself.

I remember it was a Trek and I think the battery was hidden in the down tube.
Anyway, it struck me as ironic that it was a penalty on the downhill, though I was jealous of his pedal assist on the uphill with my flatland legs. 
Ha ha been there. Went to local bike shop for bar tape came out with an Argon 18 e116 TT bike

I needed these memes today! Had to drag my sorry carcass through a VO2Max workout (which i bombed out of at just past half way mark and went back in for the last interval) followed by VO2Max brick run for 45 minutes. Currently ‘working from home’ horizontal on my sofa feeling very sorry for myself!
An mtb e-bike shot past us one third the way up a long drag of a hill. Guy grinning his head off… Then his battery died around 2/3 of the way up, and he could hardly pedal at all 
As we passed, we declined to comment…

It’s even more fun when you beat them on a climb.
I was stuck behind one during a 100km race last year. It sucked.
The guy would surge ahead on the steep stuff and then come to a stop on the obstacles because you need to put out serious watts for those.
There’s a place for e bikes. It’s not as a special class in MTB races.
