Invoking “consumer rights” is a bit strong. All HR straps I’ve used have worked OK, with occasional minor issues and sometimes eventual death-by-sweat. The new TICKR works better and more consistently. My rights have not been infringed by a HR strap at any point.

No one is attacking you, @adski. Drew is technically right: in a free market, sellers are welcome to make high- or low-quality products at different price points, and try to see who buys them. Caveat emptor.
“Consumer rights” are intended to protect your from fraud and misrepresentation, or from things like the seller not honoring the warranty. They are entirely unrelated to product quality.
The bar being low (and I agree it is) is simply a function of most users not being very demanding or very knowledgeable. Vote with your wallet.
