Poll’s flawed, I need an option for “Yes (but poorly)”.
im with sangamon
Yes (Pre Covid)
I did a fondo last year, does that count? Future racing is a maybe. Crits again, never - too old to break bones for little glory.
I’ve counted entering races and being on the same track as the race as “racing”.
ehhh, in triathlon does the bike portion count as racing your bike?
I raced off and on from 1981-2019.
I’m done, although I may do some rowing ergometer “racing” in the future.
(but I’m still doing transport/VO2 intervals on the erg and the bike because, unless your heart starts acting up, that’s how you stay strong as you get old)
Just did my first ever gravel race, and that was quite the learning experience. Taking turns in a peloton at 20+ on gravel, ruts, mud, ect is a whole different beast compared to road. I have a few additional gray hairs, but I recommend trying it to anyone who hasn’t.
First race next Tuesday
Last night, 25 mile Club TT.
Tomorrow 25 mile Open TT.
I prefer “yes, got head kicked in, came all but last, but want to try again”
Yes, but triathlon.
No, but really want to and am rather intimidated and a tad bit shy… Hopefully next week actually.
I race… I don’t know come close to winning, because it’s very competitive and many other racers are much more talented and gifted! but it’s all in the spirit of having a good time… I like to get some strong endorphins flowing
I ride round the track at the same time as a local Uni team race on it…I’m plus 40 and getting my arse handed to me…
Technically we are in the same race, though doesn’t feel like it…
On that note, how uncompetitive do you have to be before you call it quits?
This is kind of interesting. I’m one of the ‘No’ votes myself. I don’t race but cycling in general, whether solo or trying to hang with a fast group ride, is more enjoyable with better fitness.
You won’t regret it. I remember avoiding a cyclocross race for this very reason, and then following through and doing the next race. I’m so glad I did.
There is a camaraderie and social aspect in racing that is contagious, and it’s just fun to train for. For those that don’t race, what’s holding you back?
Or “Yes, but only through aid-stations”
