Duathlon Bike Advice

Soo… me again!

it seems my increased activity has gotten my wife interested in exercise again - she’s never been interested in cycling, but she does enjoy running. After my last long ride, she’s gotten herself a running plan, and signed up to a 10k in December, much like myself, she trains better with an event to aim for.

Now, we’ve also noticed a joint sport we’re really keen to get involved in next year - team duathlon, she handles the run, I handle the bike! fantastic!!

anyway, I was planning on getting a gravel bike, as a bit of a do everything bike but I can’t see it doing the job in a sprint. So I’m hoping for advice on what to go for.

I’m not sold on a full on TT bike, I don’t really want to do TTs outside of duathlons with her and most of my riding is geared toward endurance.

Should I be looking for an Aero bike? Will this do me for everything?

Essentially I want to be able to get up a hill fairly easy
I want decent handling for normal riding conditions
Fairly fast for duathlon distances
Clearance enough to keep wider wheels for comfort
I assume clip ons would really help.

Circa £2500

Yes an aero bike is faster. No you don’t need it. Buy a good endurance road bike that will fit 40-50mm tires and then get two set of wheels. If you like, buy some clip on aero bars. A pro tip is that if you get a SRAM AXS road bike, you can buy “blips” for $70 that allow you to easily shift from the aero position using clip on bars.

interesting.
the blips look a cool addition down the line.
good to know I don’t need to go mad, I mean sure I might go do a TT here or there but I’m not really looking at the moment. I’m a long way off being race ready, this is more just a nice thing to do together.
Endurance bike would certainly work for me.
