End build pt1 early because cracked

So for the past 5 weeks I’ve been railing it with training and got some amazing results. But in the last week, my numbers have suddenly tanked. Mind you it’s after a week where I literally did a bunch of power PRs.

This week though, everything seems to have suddenly gone bad.

(This is the last two weeks powercurve, vs the last few days, where suddenly it’s like all my power has disappeared)

I’ve gone from being able to chill at 300W to 200W feeling like a slog.

Does anyone else experience this. It’s like suddenly my legs just won’t play ball. Its not that they hurt off the bike, I just can’t seem to get the power out like before.

So does this mean I’ve overdone it? Time to just spin endurance for a bit? It seems I have a habit of this, I hit SSB1&2 very hard and towards the middle of SSB2 I cracked then too.

I’m tempted to scrap the last few workouts, miss this weeks race and just start spinning purely endurance for the next 11 days, but I’m all ears if someone whats to tell me I’m just being stupid

It could be down to numerous things, but perhaps your body is fighting a virus you’re not aware of? The training volume is too much for you? FTP is set too high? Faulty PM?
I wouldn’t expect people to crack from SSB workouts unless there’s something else going on in the back ground. Is your RPE higher than normal, what about HR?

I’ve experienced similar things before and it’s always a couple of days before I come down with illness. Back everything off, eat and sleep well and listen to your body.

This has been build, and I’ve had some fantastic results (talking things like best 20 minute power at the end of 1h10 etc) but I noticed even in my last race I felt flat as they come.

Workouts this week have plain been undoable

Went out for my clubs chaingang ride, I was finding it hard to hold 250W+, when I know I can hold a solid 275W for hours

Sounds like you’re fighting a virus then. Take a day or two off and see how you feel then.

What do you mean by, “I hit SSB1&2 very hard…”? Are you going above the prescribed workout or hitting the numbers exactly? What else has gone on over the past week? How’s your diet, sleep, stress?

Well actually my rhr is through the roof now I’m looking. 76 vs the usual 55-60

Yes, stop! Take a couple days off, then go easy for a while. Recovery is training too! Get lots of sleep, eat lots of veggies and fruits, etc.

I think you need to review your intention versus execution. The benefit of structured indoor work means you most definitely, within limits, know how much stress you are putting on yourself. Fine if you don’t want to stick to ERG mode or the prescribed numbers but you are then introducing variables. You already seem to have variables with crossfit and group rides so I’m not surprised you seem to repeatedly get into this hole. Rest up and try to limit the variables

Don’t have a smart trainer anyway. And yes I do tend to go over sometimes. But on the flipside, I’ve gone from 239W ftp to 300W since September, so I’m liking riding the edge. Just I get very upset when I can’t train

7 months continuous training. Possible you just fell off the edge and need a break
