Epic 8 what size

Looking to get a 2024 epic 8 and I’m hearing they run a bit on the small size, can you recommend what size you think would be good?
I’m 5’8.5" with 30" inseam. specialized recommends a medium
coming from an older nomad that is pretty slack, will be racing XC in the woods and some rocky trails

I sized mine up and zero regrets. 6’ and went with an XL after riding Lg and XL back to back. But I tend to size up my off road bikes. It feels a bit like a monster truck compared to the 100/100 XC bike I replaced. In a good way. That said, I prioritize stability and downhill confidence over being super nimble. I do mostly marathon racing, so most courses don’t have a lot of tight tech stuff where a smaller bike might do better.

I’m 5’8 with a 30ish inseam and race a medium. I also added a longer stem with more drop.

have you tried the large?

I’m 6’3" and went with a size Large. Running a longer stem (70mm).

187cm (6’2") and size L with 80mm stem. Have you checked out the bikefit calculator of specialized? what does it say?

I am 5’9.5" and ride a medium. I think I have a 60 stem turned negative. I have ridden prior generation Epics in Large. Very happy with my medium choice for the 8. Reach got longer on this generation compared to last. https://geometrygeeks.bike/compare/specialized-epic-2021-m,specialized-epic-2021-l,s-works-epic-8-2025-m,s-works-epic-8-2025-l/

Nope, the Roadie in me would like to try a small. For reference, I ride a small speed concept, 52 sl8, and 51 supersix evo.

I’m 5’11" on a medium.

I don’t think they run small at all. A 450mm reach on a medium is pretty typical for an XC bike these days.
