Event cancelled so new ftp or build on existing

I was in my taper week for my main event (this coming Friday) and after emailing on Saturday for info found it’s been cancelled (which has put me in a bit of a funk since I’d been aiming for it for the last 9 months but that’s by the by) so will need to start a new plan just for some consistency/structure. I’ve removed my recovery week since I won’t be recovering and put in a SSB1 LV. The event organiser has moved my entry to a similar race (Trans Devon 2024) but it’s another 11 months away so plenty of time to get even better prepared, or at least that’s me trying to make the best of it.

I’ve been at 214w since Apr 14 as I’ve been on my specialisation block since then so I just ran an auto FTP which puts me at 219W which makes sense since the last block is about building time in zone not upping FTP.

Starting a new base build would the best plan be to reset my PLs and start from lower or stick with my existing FTP and continue working on longer intervals?

I doesn’t really matter both will give you the same sort of workout difficulty

I’d suggest you try to find a way to use your scheduled peak. Your event got canceled, this sucks. Find something else to do that day that would be a good use of your fitness

Peaks come rarely and you’ve put in the work. Go use this to challenge yourself, have fun, and to learn how you respond to a taper so you can be even better for your next peak

I’d also recommend you leave the recovery week there and give yourself a week or two of downtime. Doesn’t have to be entirely off the bike, but let your body and mind decompress and don’t follow structure for a bit

Dive back in after a couple weeks. You spent months and months getting to this point and it seems your next focus is nearly a year away
