Outside wouldn’t be good for a non monopoly on cycling news, although maybe their player team could fix captain support on Samsung TVs!
Ugh. Another beautiful cycling property for Outside to destroy
Oh jeez…PLEASE don’t let Outside get GCN.
Frack.
If they’re split from Discovery Eurosport I wonder what will happen to their race coverage. It’s so damn nice to have practically every cycling race in the world accessible live and/or streaming on a single platform (with a little VPN hopping). The price was great, and the commentary was head & shoulders above other broadcasters (cough … NBC … cough) too.
No doubt…but honestly, it was way undervalued, IMO. $50 / year was dirt cheap and always seemed unrealistic to support the business. Heck, major streaming platforms charge WAY more than that. While I wouldn’t be happy about it, $10-$15 / month doesn’t seem out of line for the amount of races you get.
Oh, absolutely. GCN+ is a steal, especially for the $25 first year rate. Don’t tell them, but yeah, I’d also happily pay $10-$15 a month for the same coverage they have now.
I agree with you that it was too cheap, but let’s face it, at least in the US, people are mostly looking for Le Tour. If you go that route, you’re going to get a LOT of people (in the US, at least) who sign up for 1 month. 3-4 months at best.
Having said that, I think you could do $99 pretty easily and not lose much traffic. Or have two tiers. Maybe $99 for Grand Tours and Roubaix, $150 for everything? Or even a third tier at $199 with Cross, MTB, and all the documentaries? Not stuck on those numbers or differentiators, just saying I think in the US, you need a “cheap” option, but could still charge far more overall.
Please no Outside!
So no watching cycling in the future? Yes, gcn+ is too cheap honestly. But the problem will be solved by Outside as they destroy another thing.
I guess when it happens I’ll be forced to go back to the Eurosports app for cycling in future and have to put up with their dodgy schedules and other cr@p getting in the way
Here (Poland) eurosport app is discounted and replaced by another player owned by discovery so it works similar to gcn but gcn is so much more convenient, and has more coverage of races.
Nevertheless cycling as a sport is dying.
