Garage/Pain Cave must haves

Up until combining with zwift, I was running TR on an Android “TV” box for several years. I only stopped as 1 TV became zwift moving wallpaper, and then FireTV stick on the other for entertainment.

In the meantime, I’ve brought a mini pc. I haven’t used it for TR (might test it though, as it’d be a route to group workouts). Probably a safer bet than an Android TV Box to be fair.

Keep the shoes in the house. Will help with the feet getting cold (you start with warm shoes). HUGE difference to me anyway.

@NickThomas, you could also put down gym flooring (e.g. rubber tiles) to provide some insulation as well as damping.

Scored a second hand bar fridge for a box of beers for storing bottles and gels. I just stock up the fridge once a week, and good to go.

Things look a little different since COVID came. Gave up the gym membership and fully invested in the basement gym. Here’s the gain cave that COVID built.

Wish I had space for all that. WOW!

How long did it take before you enjoyed the row machine? Or was it enjoyment at first effort? I have tried them at the gym and admit they give a great workout. But I found it painfully boring.

I really enjoy the rower. It was the one thing from the gym that I really missed and always used as a warmup for weight training (it’s a GREAT full body warmup). The key is to use the rower properly and to make sure you have correct form and you have the correct damper setting. Most people think you just crank it up to 10 and row, when actually there is a method to the madness with the that dial on the side of the flywheel. Check videos on YouTube for ‘how to set the damper on a rower’ and ‘proper rowing form’ and I think that will help. On the subject of boredom, that’s just something you have to fix yourself. I swivel my TV over and watch Netflix or Prime, or I just listen to music on a short row (usually warm up for weights with 2000m row - about 8ish minutes). You could also use it for intervals and do short 200-500m bursts in between sets or exercises. For me, it really mixes up my Triathlon training, and it’s a great low-impact full body workout. Hope that helps.
