I am about to begin the Build Phase of a Training Plan and the first ride of the week is a VO2 Max ride that Adaptive Training is labelling as “Not Recommended”. Does that make sense? Is this an Adaptive Training glitch? Has any one experienced this?
I think that happened on my calendar once. Looked at the workout and thought, ‘Meh, I can do that workout no prob.’ Did the workout. There were some adaptations, I think? I didn’t really pay attention to them. That was that…went on with the plan.
Thanks. Just odd to prescribe a workout as part of a plan, with adaptive training, that says “Don’t do this!” Will probably give it a try, although even the TrainNow is suggesting a VO2 that is merely a stretch.
Keep in mind, if you haven’t actually started the plan yet it will adapt when you start, so that may be a placeholder until you start
I am past SS base and entering the build phase of a single plan – would make more sense if it started low than high if I were starting a new plan, per the TR podcast.
Build phase is still a separate plan, so it won’t start until Tuesday (or whatever date you have it set to)
This. Once you actually start AT will adapt based on your current PLs.
Shouldn’t the first ride be a Ramp Test?
I had a ramp test week 1 — I am now in week 6 beginning build phase but wasn’t promoted for another ramp test.
There should be a ramp at the beginning of each phase. Is it possible you deleted it and put another ride on that Tuesday? That would answer the question. If not, I’d contact support.
Thanks. Will try support. I put in a week off in their plan last week when I built plan originally. Wonder whether that’s the glitch in their system that eliminated the ramp test.
Possibly, or the week off at the beginning could also be whats resulting in that workout being ‘Not Recommended’, where your proximity to the most recent workout is taken under consideration as well.
Definitely get in touch with support to make sure nothing is amiss.
Is it Baird +5? Someone posted recently about that being assigned at the beginning of a 3-week build block in between Base 1 and Base 2, and I have the exact same thing. No ramp test until the beginning of Base 2, and Baird +5 is “not recommended.” Is your build phase one of those 3-week ones in between bases? I think this might be a pretty specific glitch that’s happening to a bunch of people…
I’m still trying to decide if I’m just going to suck it up and do the workout or not, it’s supposed to be today
Thanks. I contacted support and learned that the adjustment will occur for this new phase on the first day of the new phase — tomorrow. So looking ahead yesterday until tomorrow was a mistake. Apparently, adaptive training only adjusts the phase you are presently in, which makes sense.
Yes. Interesting! Support said it would adjust tomorrow when that phase begins but sounds like that may be wrong if you have that today. I was considering sucking it up as well! Very funny. Let me know how it goes!
What did they say about the phase not starting with a test?
By the way, this is from support:
“The reason you’re seeing a “not recommended” workout as your next session is that, for now, Adaptive Training only adapts through the end of your current training block. A good analogy is to think of your training plan like a weather forecast: the further into the future the workout is, the less certain Adaptive Training can be about how you will have completed or responded to the training by then and the more likely the workout is to be adapted multiple times. It is when moving between training blocks that the non-adapted state of the future block becomes more apparent.
This means once you enter your Build training block, starting December 7, 2021, Adaptive Training will recommend adaptations to all your workouts in this block based on your current FTP and Progression Levels.“
Looks like next ramp test is built in two weeks from now. There is a build phase within the first two base phases of the plan. This is the excerpted response from support below, but I still think there is an issue based on another response to my post. Will find out tomorrow.

When I logged in this morning it gave me adaptations for every other workout this week, just not that one
Leaves you only one choice!
