I know next to nothing about the American race or grit scene but I do like this chap. He seems to have a fair amount to say but from what I can see via the internet, he and his team have the talent, contacts and passion to back it all up.

Particularly like something he said during the interview @ellotheth linked to.

‘People seem to think that I’m just good, like I was born lucky. No, I had to do three crits a week since the age of 14 to get good.’

Also forgot to link this if no one has listened to it. Payson Mcelveen’s podcast with Justin Williams was really good. They were at a training camp with Colin Strickland (2019 DK Winner) and Kate Courtney (2018 XCO MTB World Champ) so those two also jump in.

YES, I love this framing. No substitute for hard work and practice, even when your genetic ceiling is up in the stratosphere (though golly that must be nice).

Its really impressive that when the Legion wins, Speciaized give them a bike to give away to a junior. Good for the team, brand and upcoming juniors.

Even more impressive is their sponsorship structure. Williams the Elder said from the start of the CNCPT team that they weren’t going to chase after sponsors; they were just going to race & be a team in their own special way and let the sponsors come to them. One Specialized-Rapha-Shimano combo later…
