So do you manually recreate the TR workout in TrainerDay??
No, that would be against the terms and conditions, I just create workouts that I want to do in Zwift and outside in TrainerDay
It’s hard to imagine that if you are a TR subscriber and reproduce a workout in TP to download to the Karoo that it would be a problem provided that you don’t distribute it. My TR results (with the workout profile) already go to TP. I don’t see how doing a manual workaround for the Karoo would be a huge problem. However, you could always ask support and see what they say.
Maybe, but here’s what it says in user agreement , make of it what you will
" Attempting to copy, duplicate, reproduce, sell, trade, or resell our Resources is strictly prohibited."
I was just pointing out that I don’t do that, when asked if I duplicate a TR resource,
As to your workouts going to TP already, TR are doing that via a document procedure that has been made for you, it’s not the same as you looking on a screen and translating that to a different system (shallow copy)
Again, I was only pointing out that I don’t do that, and what it says in the User Agreement
I wrote to TR support to get an answer if they have a problem manually duplicating a workout in TP to download to the Karoo. This is what I wrote:
“I currently use the Karoo2 as my head unit and it only supports workout downloads from TrainingPeaks. When I want to do a TrainerRoad outdoor workout is there any issue with recreating the workout manually in TP so that I can download it to the Karoo? I won’t distribute it to anyone else. I just need a workaround until Hammerhead gets TR workouts working directly with the Karoo2.”
Support replied:
That is not an issue at all - we are sorry that currently we are not supporting the Karoo2 for Outside Workouts and I’ll bring it up to the team and see if we can make it available faster.
So, if you are doing this for your own personal use they are ok with it. Just don’t sell, give away, post on the internet, or whatever the workout.
Just an fyi, hammerhead just added it in today’s update.
From the looks of it, it’s theoretically way better than Garmins implementation since you can customize it’s sensitivity. But time will tell how well the execution goes.
Edit - beat me to it
Hey another happy Karoo 2 user here, coming from a Garmin device. It’s taking some time to fully get used to it, but I can’t say I’m missing much from my Garmin. I’d also be happy to see a TR integration for the Karoo 2. In the meantime I found out that Trainerday even has a bunch of the TR workouts uploaded with the same names, so you can even search for them, but I don’t really care for all the hassle going through two other providers to half-illegally download the workout routines. Therefore for an outdoor workout I’d most likely just get my Garmin for the day. But I hope TR team has it on their agenda and provides us the integration soon. The Karoo 2 is a pretty cool unit, I think it surpasses Garmin and Wahoo Roam by far.
One more thing about the Hammerhead service - shortly after my purchase I contacted them concerning a dead pixel on the screen as well as with one usability question. Their support reacts super fast, I am now getting a replacement unit with no hassle. I remember contacting Garmin about my edge a couple of years ago - they kindly sent me an offer to fix the housing of my unit for 200+€ for an issue that was way too common at the time.
However, I still seem to be getting less battery life with the Karoo than with my Edge 1000. I figure I burn through 15% an hour or so.
I have set the brightness to about 50% which seems alright. The Garmin has the ambient light sensor which works betters. Garmin’s screen has less glare but Karoo’s graphics and the page design/layouts/data fields are way cooler! I wish it were easier to change data fields during the ride with the Karoo but it is still kind of alright.
Navigation is pretty dope with Karoo, on Garmin I usually have all notifications switched off cause I find them super annoying. POI function on Karoo is very nice - you can add these already on the map in the browser and navigating to them straight from the device is super easy. Navigating to an address however straight from the unit is a bit of a hassle because a wifi hot spot is needed to look up an address.
I’m never really sure if my phone is connected or not, it was a lot clearer on the Garmin and it’s a bit of a bummer I can’t use Strava’s live track through the Karoo. I know they have their own thing but it only works with the WiFi hot spot or the SIM and this only shows my current location rather than my route and my gf doesn’t care for it. I have to run Strava in parallel on my phone if I still want to have the beacon feature.
Another nice feature on the Karoo is the odometer for different bikes which is also separated from the profiles. And you can manually modify the odometer values if you want, which is a mystery to me why Garmin never made possible without messing with the settings files and a text editor.
Really good review. I have similar feelings on the K2.
I’m hoping they improve their live track web interface as well. They removed the need for an account to see the live track. Which was super nice as needing an account was really stupid to begin with. Garmin’s web interface is way better. But the execution of live track from the K2 device is light years ahead. I have a sim installed and it just automatically works. I constantly had trouble getting it to work on Garmins. And half the time it would cause the device to freeze during my ride. Hammerheads dashboard needs a TON of work too.
I get about 13-15% battery usage per hour as well with every feature turned on and screen at 50% brightness. I’d like better battery life. But I’m way happier on the K2 because it does everything it attempts to do, very well.
Karoo now on Wiggle and it appears the various discounts work with it!
Thx, like which discounts?
I think he means like the wiggle platinum discont
The standard Wiggle ones appear in the UK, ie
Gold customers have spent over £300 in the last 365 days and receive an exclusive 5% off list price.
Platinum customers have spent over £500 in the last 365 days and receive an exclusive 12% off list price.
I got mine for 320 from Wiggle.
Anyone know if I can use it with best bike split, or simulate a course indoors?
Also how does it support zwift? Through the sideload of the companion app?
How do you mean support Zwift?? Zwift runs on a client device, I’m 99.9% sure the Karoo doesn’t have the specs to run a graphic intensive game on it!!
You can side load the zwift companion app. Not the actual game.
Yeah I wasn’t expecting to run zwift off it obviously. Their promo material for on about using it alongside zwift I wanted to find out what they mean exactly. I am assuming they don’t mean sideloading the companion. See quote from their website below.
we’re delighted that the Karoo can also join you for your Zwift Academy plans, your all-too-serious weeknight grand fondos, and your attempts to drop Geraint Thomas on the back streets of Watopia.
